This morning I feel so relieved not having the stress and anxiety of wondering if UNT will beat us for a 3rd time and deny us a trip to the championship game. I'm glad our coach cares about our health.
Talented and Athletic enough to compete for a CUSA title. However not disciplined or well coached. So unless this team pics up a knock down shooter, dominant big man who can score inside to take pressure off Williams and allow him to be more of on inside out guy, this team under terry will underachieve. Oh and if Terry talks to some of his mentors and gets some tips. He gets out coached too much and seems to not have full control of his team.
El Paso also needs a Joe Muench type in the media who is not afraid to call a spade a spade and call out obvious incompetence and mediocrity in UTEPs athletic department. Senter and his department need to be shamed and held accountable for their performance the last 3-4 years. I was discouraged near the end of Stull’s tenure but under Senter and his minions I am downright disgusted.
That got turned around just prior to Stull departure. I noticed info coming out of UTEP was coming from one direction, theirs. They control the story but if the AD will not provide more beyond boiler plate answers there's a problem. After FAU loss I said "no mas" with CRT. You blew the last two games you could've won and all you got for Teich before and after game is non stop run of the mill UTEP AD stock comments? "You know, we fought hard....". Yeah, we agree coach but why did you lose the battle.....again?By "Joe Muench type" I hope that you mean someone who will hold UTEP's feet to the fire, like Muench did, but whom, unlike Muench, is capable of logical thought, and has better writing skills than your average high school student.
I agree that the level at which the Athletic Department controls the local sports media is ridiculous. I wish more members of the local media would stand up to the Athletic Department and provide honest evaluations of the crap that we've had to deal with for the last several years.
10 million would buy out both coaches and still leave us with enough money to give the new football coach a 4 million 4 year contract and the bball coach a 2.4 million 4 year contract. Both would be among the highest paid coaches in the conference.$10 million? We only need .36 of an El Paso doctor to come up with that cash. Easy.

Why yes we can! Maybe the prez is working on it now
Holy shit we're facked. If UTEP couldn't afford 145k to buy out Nord then how are we ever going to afford the contracts Senter wrote?I think Nord's was private donation buyout, but that was rumor weed and not confirmed.
I'll never forget seeing him at a delicatessen/deli sandwich shop on the westside the next after his departure from UTEP. He looked like he needed a bottle of tequila.

Good post. One more:These are all good posts. The ones that are spot on are the following:
1) Terry needs and Xs and Os assistant; he has not one. He consistently got out adjusted in the second half (like Dimel).
2) The local media are cupcakes (Kappy from time to time does turn up the heat). The Times is hiring a new sports editor and hopefully she will turn up the heat on UTEP.
Here are three more:
3) WIlson needs to demand excellence and accountability. I have not heard her say anything regarding athletics.
4) Where are the local boosters on this? For many programs, it is the boosters who demand performance or else there funds are gone.
5) Can MountainStar run an athletics department? That is one first class organization - everything from the game day experience to the food is well executed.

Because the principals at MountainStar are all invested, literally and figuratively, in UTEP both historically and to this day.Why would MountainStar want anything to do with UTEP athletics? On Sept 4th this year, there’s a Chihuahuas game and the UTEP home opener versus Bethune Cookman. The Locomotive haven’t released their schedule yet, but it will probably run into September and October like it normally does.
Why would they want to associate with a brand that has decades of negative “equity”? Their 3 teams are all new. That’s why they just didn’t name them the Diablos, Cobras, and Patriots. They don’t want their name associated with past crap.
Why hire an assistant to coach AND pay Terry?
If you had a lot of $, would you give it to Senter?
Ahhhhhh, the ol' "I want to give to my old church but F the bishop and don't let him touch my (Trust) money!!". This is old as the day is long. In the end Killer, the big, nasty, Sodom and Gommorah entity wins in the end.Nope. If I had the kind of money that could make a difference I'd call Dr. Wilson directly and tell her that I'd like to help but not with Senter as AD.

Don't get me wrong, legal arrangements can be made but once you're dead, your dead and trustees and lawyers don't want to waste the interest and/or principal on legal battles unless loved ones are wanting to challenge but in the end, the targeted group loses and "the lawyers win" if a legal fight breaks out. Second, administrations change and what happens is the new leaders mismanage the money.
So what I am saying is I respectfully disagree. Case in point, Durham left money to Stull years ago and hoped for best because he wanted to change UTEP football culture. Eh, well....you know the history. But his investment was put into good infrastructure like the weight room.
I don't see Wilson, if he ends up signing, as a Terry recruit over of Sjolund. Wilson looks more like 4/5, so in theory, they should be able to co-exist on the court. On Sjolund, he is clearly an outstanding spot up shooter; the issue is on the other side of the ball where he has a difficult time staying in front of his man. He really struggles defending the 3, and that makes it difficult playing him against certain lineups. If he is going to play extended minutes under Terry, he will need to improve on the defensive side of the ball.We are a 3-pt shooting team right? This is Terry's gameplan right? Terry always says that we just have the make more shots...
So we have a player that shot 47% from 3 taking almost three attempts a game in 14 minutes. He shot 85% from the line. He showed the ability to finish at the rim and ALSO protect the rim. He also played out of position all season and still did well.
In the final game he watched another guard take his spot in the lineup (which Terry hadn't done ALL season). He has also watched Terry sign 2 more guys that basically play the position he is capable of playing. What should he do with 3 more years of eligibility?
I didn't see that Terry used Sjolund against certain lineups. He just used him as a back up to BW. It was the same all year except the last game when he went small. I agree Wilson is a different type player and that they can co-exist, but so could have Sjolund and BW.I don't see Wilson, if he ends up signing, as a Terry recruit over of Sjolund. Also, if Khalifani Hill is a guy that can come in and be a true difference maker as a freshman and steal minutes from an upperclassman, that is a positive. I'm not sure how realistic that is based on Terry's previous high school recruits.
Yep, the outlook of another three years of Terry is bleak. I agree Terry will need to hit it big recruiting to have any chance of turning it around, and even then, it is highly questionable he can put the pieces together. I think we will again see a good number of guys brought in, beyond Hill and Wilson.I didn't see that Terry used Sjolund against certain lineups. He just used him as a back up to BW. Regarding Hill, that is exactly what Terry wants. Over recruit and hope to hit it big. That's his only hope at this point.
