Congrats to Scott Stoker for turning the defense around. They have played very well the past 2 weeks.
Well, the ones who were there sure made a lot of noise...
I liked the offensive game plan, too. Throwing to set up the run then Kugler-ball to seal it.
You have to give some credit to Leftwich, who made some pretty accurate throws. He missed on a few long shots down the field but he can really hum the ball in close in. He is really smooth handing the ball off. On the play where the catch was called back on our last drive, Rice didn't know he had the ball and he just stood back there like he was waiting for a bus. Great game Miners
Lufausa, Pinkle and the offensive line played a great game. It's great to see the OC finally opening the playbook. Leftwich played a smart game and took care of the ball. Despite all the injuries, the Miners are two wins away from being bowl eligible. I thought the officiating was terrible.
It's unbelievable that only four teams in C-USA have a better record than us. WKU, Marshall, La Tech and Southern Mississippi. We still have a chance to win out and finish with 8 wins. Call me crazy but it can happen. I would be happy with six wins and a decent showing at our bowl appearance.
It was a great football crowd. Its the loudest its been all year. Condidering it being a Friday game, Utep's subpar record, and start time....it was a good turn out. Who cares how empty the Sun Bowl looked on TV. It's not like having 30,000 on the seats would have changed more of the negativity around the country and locally of El Paso and Utep.
The important part about this win is that Rice is actually a decent team, not great but they aren't FAU, NMSU or a lady of the incarnate D3 school.
I must've had the volume on too low on my TV then, bc it didn't come across loud or raucous- regardless, great game, great win - kept waiting for us to do something boneheaded at the end to give it away, but it didn't happen- whew!
