This a media driven (particularly espn) non event. The summer of 98 happened. No matter what you think of steroids they can't erase the memory of that summer. Most of the country was fully invested in it. We've seen three guys pass 61. Sammy Sosa did it three times. I get this is the American league record but we've all seen it. This is like being the fourth guy to walk on the moon.

Thank thy lord!! I was getting tired of whenever he was up to bat whatever game I happened to be watching would go split screen.

It wasn’t even an MLB record he was going for. Not everybody gives a rats ass about a Yankees record.

He was going for the American League record as well. Baseball is different, and more exciting, compared to other sports when it comes to records being broken.
