Better question: when this team fails to win 20 games, will you (MinerFan79) believe that Golding and Senter should still be here?
I have no problems with Mr Senter… I think reality is absent a great run in the tourney, Golding is likely done
So those words Senter uttered about how we'll compete for conference championships and being 0 for 14 between the two revenue sports sits ok with you? Not only that, the Miners have only ONE winning conference record between football and basketball in that time. ONE. We are not even in the ballpark of conference championships. You don't think it's important to hold a man to his word? Empty words are ok with you? How long do you give the man? He's over 7 years in and isn''t even close. Why would you be ok with that?
Essentially he stepped around the answer and would not personally want to pull the trigger on Golding. He says he is most likely done, but you can tell he does not agree with it, and would not want him gone himself.
I just don't understand what it takes for some of these posters to actually want UTEP to get better by making the changes that they need to make. It just seems they are fine with the coach and team putting on a uniform and stepping on the court regardless of the result.
As for Senter, same, he can do no wrong to a couple of posters. He could hire Crusty the Clown as the next coach, and they would be fine with it. Crusty could win 2 games for 5 straight years and they would believe the Miners were headed in the right direction. And G_d forbid any of the posters on here complain about any of it because that is blasphemy.
That’s right, buy the tickets and go to the games to see losses or wins over bottom barrel schools. It’s just fun to spend $11 on a hot dog and drink combo!

And UTEP used to be something until some fans settled for the mediocrity and make those exact statements. How about changing coaches when needed instead of allowing them to hang around and run the program into the ground.
Because of that exact thinking, UTEP is where they are. Remember, we used to be in a conference with the likes of UTAH and BYU, and beat them regularly in basketball. I can go on with schools that we used to be paired with. Now we finish in 8th place in a conference that you just admitted is a terrible conference. And yet, it is ok to still keep the coach.
That statement above is exactly why UTEP's basketball program has deteriorated over the last 15 years. Getting worse and worse by the year, and some fans being fine with it, and how dare some complain.
Some on here remember the Haskins years and how the program prospered. Now, some only remember the last 15 non NCAA years and don't have any expectations for the team to improve as they are fine where we are. That is exactly why UTEP is not improving and one can only wonder how this will show in the MW when the competition gets harder. This team will be lucky to have 4 wins in conference.
Lastly, what is wrong with Accountability. Are Senter and Bronzing not to be held accountable? Can they just push out these kind of seasons over and over, and it is fine.
100%. I have mentioned on here many times that at any other D1 school, Senter would have been long gone. Some fans act like Senter/Golding, etc. are unpaid volunteers. Other than Volleyball, and maybe track, UTEP's athletics has been horrible under Senter.
Ultimately this year was Golding’s make or break year. Multiple seniors with two or more years in the program, knowing his offense and defense, and yet this is his most disappointing year.
Unless I see a list of foolproof candidates (Young, Craig Smith formerly of Utah, and a small amount of others) I don’t trust Senter to make a good choice. His seemingly only good hire was Wallis. We are consistently at the top or leading CUSA in MBB and FB, the fan support and money could be there, there is no reason for us to limp into the end of the season with MBB attendance consistently lower than 5000.

We want him to hire coaches who can compete for championships, and, if they can't, to release them when they've proven incompetent. We want him to raise the money necessary to hire good coaches and improve the facilities. This is his job. As has been pointed out, in his seven years here he has hired exactly one coach who has competed for conference championships, Wallis. Senter has failed at his job; like others have said, he should be held accountable. We need a competent AD, and Senter isn't it.
Sorry man, this is ridiculous. Whatever conference you are in, asking a coach to seriously compete for conference championships isn't unreasonable.
Question to you -- How bad would a coach have to perform for you to support letting them go and moving on? Is there a level of failure that would do that for you?
I have been a Goldinng fan all along. I really like the man. He's a deeply caring. Compassionate individual. Unfortunately the results just haven't been there. I know he is frustrated with the situation. But I think he probably should be let go
Ok, for one you didn’t answer any of the questions, and you are obviously fine with Senter’s empty words. Got it. Enough said.
I’ll communicate by actually answering your question. What exactly I want him to do is put UTEP in a position to compete for conference championships, which is none other than what he said he’d do. I DO think someone should be accountable for what they say they’ll do. And especially because we are UTEP and in weak ass conference USA. It isn’t gonna get any easier in the MWC, dude.
Your argument is weak because all CUSA ADs are on a level playing field in that it’s the same weak ass conference for everybody in it. If it isn’t a level playing field, it’s because UTEP pours more resources into its revenue sports than most schools in the conference, which should give UTEP/Senter the edge of anything.
New Mexico lost their best players from last year and didn’t need 7 years to rebuild.
Not to mention NMSU is in its 2nd season of literally building a team from scratch after numerous legal issues and they are already in a better position than us.
I think Golding is gone absent a big CUSA tourney run. I was referring to Mr Senter
Way too early to say whether or not Walden was a good hire. I think he’s going to be solid
Last I’ll say, specifically to you about this James Senter matter. I agree with your take that he isn’t going anywhere. I believe that. And that’s part of the problem for most people on this site…is that he isn’t going anywhere. So, basically he’s just gonna get by with the support of people like, well you know…you! That isn’t meant as an insult. It’s just a recognition.
I sincerely hope I am wrong on Walden but it was jarring to go from the size of the Dimel teams to Walden’s. Just felt like we were undersized compared to the other CUSA teams, let alone when we played out of conference.
Jim will be here as long as he wants to. It is one of the perks of being an AD at UTEP.

Who cares about a bet. He should be gone, and it seems you are happy he isn't. Just like Minerfanatico said, the problem is that he won't be sent packing when he has no accountability and has done a horrible job. You would be happy if Bronzing was here another year, you just believe that he will be sent packing which is against your wishes.
You have never answered the question on why you personally feel that Senter and Bronzing have earned another year. Please tell us, because we all want to know.
Especially the fact that we are going to the MW, where the teams are even bigger than CUSA.
