UTEP Basketball Recruiting

My question is why weren’t his numbers better against low level competition and him having most people outsized?

TJ Ford was a great player at Texas and serviceable with the Spurs, but his AAU teams are not very good to put it nicely. I've probably seen this kid play and I can't say I remember him. UTEP is in trouble if this is the only type of talent we can attract.
Definitely not defending Golding, just pointing out that he was regarded as the 12th best JC Recruit for a reason. So even if you didn’t notice him apparently he was in fact noticed. We shall see though if he’s at least a decent replacement for Barnes. The gem of this unimpressive recruiting class I think might never LA Hayes or Jamal West. I guess we’ll see. Next year is a complete unknown.

Being the best scorer on a really bad team is not very impressive or memorable. Good for the kid making the best of his situation, bad for us. He also has offers from WAY better schools than us, as a 3 star recruit. He won't be at UTEP 🤣😢
