UTEP Basketball Schedule

Pretty funny they're still touting the Pac 12 for the Sun Bowl game.
The next 2 bowls will feature teams that were in the Pac 12 until this season. If Stanford and Cal are in the Sun Bowl, they will be doing as the Pac 12 choices and play an ACC opponent. I’m not sure they would end up doing that in this hypothetical case, but that’s how it will work.

However, no matter how they spin it, there is no PAC12

I’m pretty sure Y’all will be happy with a tournament we’ll have coming up this season at a very fun location …

UTEP has 2 games left to fill on their schedule. Assuming that CUSA plays a full round robin 18 game schedule. Bronzeing claims one will be a P5 buy game.

Home games - Sul Ross, NNMU, Tarleton (WAC Challenge), Jackson St, Yale/Akron, Loyola Marymount.

Neutral - Long Beach, SJSU, UNCG

Road - UCSB, Utah Valley
Sul Ross and NNMU should just be free scrimmages.

I really do not think it is that bad given UTEP's descension. According to Golding, LMU pushed game for another year.

Seven OOC home games, three against non-Div 1 competition. Ugh. Seattle and Tarleton State are solid teams to play OOC, but, except for the BCG connection, not names that will excite the casual fan. The same goes for the Akron and Yale in the Sun Bowl Invitational. Our "marquee" game is on the road, where we play a Louisville team that was horrible last year, but who will still likely wipe the floor with us. Only die hards will be in the stands again this year, and, as has been mentioned before, UTEP die hards are getting long in the tooth. It won't be long until we won't be able to brag about our attendance figures versus the rest of the conference anymore.

I'll be making my way to the Louisville game from Nashville...excited about the trip and glad to see UL on the schedule.

GO MINERS!

Looks like we’re gonna have to wait until the MW to stop bragging about attendance.

Funny that some people on here complain about the attendance.
I still think attendance is bad. I can't blame people for not showing up. Every time EP shows brings a big crowd we lose. UTEP needs to prove it to the fairweather fans at this point. And yes I go to every game football and basketball.

What do you think the average attendance should be?

Men’s College Basketball and Football are basically pro sports now. There’s free agency. Roster continuity is gone. You have to promote the product differently and colleges haven’t caught on to this.

1. The game has to be an event. The Rhinos sell out every night and it’s high school kids, that no one knows; playing for free. Loud Music, Light Shows, throwing stuff on the Ice, quads doing donuts, everyone plays on the ice after the game. You have to think like a Minor League Team and make the atmosphere the event.

2. You have to create a Star or bring them here. It’s no longer Don Haskins and the Miners. You have to get a star and make the promotions about him and pay him well. People want to see stars. Or, you’ve got to get a star to play vs your team (which is unlikely.) What was good about the old Strelzin days is he made our opponents the villains? Gave us a team to boo against.

3. The product has to be priced correctly and you have to have promotions to get people through the doors. Everyone likes a giveaway, everyone likes a deal. 1000 cheap White T-Shirts don’t create a buzz either. El Pasoans love Fireworks, Hats, and Dri Fit Shirts.

4. The game cannot be inconvenient. If people go to a game, don’t know where to park, then park and wait 15 minutes to stand on a bus. Then download an app, scan a QR Code, get searched, stand in this line, stand in that line, get stuck in traffic on the way out….etc….they’re not gonna want to go back. We don’t live in a patient world.

5. Your brand must connect with your customers. UTEP has really tried hard here with the 915 campaigns. For whatever reason, it hasn’t resonated with El Paso. I think instead of putting 915 on stuff, just put El Paso. How many of us would buy an Orange and Blue jersey that said El Paso?

It’s partly what kickball wrote, but it’s been 10 years since UTEP had a NIT caliber team. That team didn’t even sniff the NCAAs and no team since has come close to sniffing the NIT.

Throw in a degrading home schedule and a degrading CUSA and you get what we have. We’re currently “equals” with Sam Houston St and Jacksonville St, when 20 years ago, they would have been buy game opponents or the worst team in the SBI, going home with 2 losses.

Lack of winning and worst opponents in the country are why people don’t go. You can improve all that other stuff, but it doesn’t matter if you’re finishing 16-15 or your best wins are Yale and UCSB.

6-8k is what we should be getting at minimum. We lost a lot of fans after all these years of losing. Old fans have passed and new fans weren't made during this time. We stopped winning and our fanbase diminished. It sucks. UTEP let this happen. It's hard to believe we still have a decent fanbase for a G5 after all these years of crap.
