That NMSU game will be huge, because teams changing defensive scheme's almost always struggle early on and this will be our very first game under both a new Offense and a new Defense. This might also be NMSU's best team and best player(Rose) of the past decade.

On the other hand.......we got Aaron Jones!!

Rose will be on a Sunday roster some day. Their coach has been nothing but a class act during his tenure at NMSU as far as this rivalry is concerned.

However, with that being said, this rivalry is too deep with Kugler and I sincerely doubt they will chalk a win while Kug is at UTEP, even during transitions in offense and defense. Deep, heated and sometimes nasty rivalries have way too much of a psychological component to them. Just look at the Red River rivalry. There is no way in heck UT should have won that game last year but they were laser locked, didn't miss a tackle and contained their qb (not to mention having a just fired from OU assistant on the UT side played a huge role).

Larry Rose scares the hell out of me. We have the better team but they will have the best player on the field. I feel good because we have the spring to install the new offense and defense. I think our personnel on defense are perfect fit for the 3-4. Playing the youngsters in the secondary last year will pay dividends this year. The secondary will be the strength of the defense.
Juniel will be the x factor on offense this year. He will flip field posistion and create matchup nightmares in the slot.

At home we should beat nmsu by 3 tds, but larry rose is scary.

Houston Baptist has a team?

Yep. They're in the same FCS conference as Sam Houston State and usually lose by 40 or 50 points when they play the Bearkats. Think Incarnate Word Lite.

I went to the last one against UT Austin.... I kid you not, it was so humid and hot my phone crapped out... never to turn on again!

Exactly if they add a few players, like a good receiver and couple of linemen they could be tough, and I like it that way it's what rival game should be like. Back in the 90's we played the Aggies in the Sun Bowl when we were both unbeaten and it was the Lee Mays highlight show with a full house.

It's already a 12 game schedule why on earth would it be a pay day game that would make 13?!

UTEP's goal should be to beat them by at least 3 td's every year.

Seems the stars are aligning for next year. Army should draw well and UT will give us some experience with the BCS level talent. Austin will be hot has hell but I hear they do have a few places to "cool down" so to speak.
