UTEP guard Ahamad Bynum entering the transfer portal

He gone by conference play.

Which is why we should be skeptical about the quality of the incoming players as well
Yup compared to players like Boum going to Xavier. It’s been pretty obvious Golding can’t recruit the level of talent that Uteps been accustomed to. I actually think he’s a decent X’s and O’s guy, but he just doesn’t get good enough talent to El Paso.

I'm not convinced on the Xs and Os. To convince me, you would have to make the case that the team wins more games than the talent level would win with another random CUSA coach. Wins Above Replacement if you will.

Agree. Seems to me CJG is using the recruiting blueprint at UTEP that made him successful at ACU. It’s apples to oranges though.

He’s definitely a better Xs and Os coach than he is recruiter. The major knock on his actual coaching, imo, is his inability to adapt, to make necessary adjustments during game time. He’s a one trick pony and once figured out, once teams adjust, the show is about over.

I agree that’s why I said decent, not a good coach. My ex was Decent, but she wasn’t worth putting up with and neither is Golding! lol 😆

Ever since he's been at UTEP people have accused Golding of recruiting like he was at still at Abilene Christian, and blaming that for his failures here. The issue that I have with this take is the fact that Golding's last three ACU teams would obliterate any of his Miner teams, especially the three Miner teams composed primarily of his recruits. Hell, we lost to ACU two seasons ago, and the Wildcats were nowhere close to what they once were.

If Golding was recruiting as well here as he did at ACU we would be a much better team. The problem is that Golding has moved to a school in a better conference, with more money and better resources, and recruited significantly worse. Well that and the fact that his substitution patterns make no sense, and he sticks with his one defensive scheme no matter the situation, the personnel he has on the floor, or the opponent's strengths and weaknesses.
