It counts. Guess folks figure it’s an automatic easy win. Miners started off slow. We’re at halftime now. UTEP leads 38-22.
Very interesting game. The starters, except for Williams, weren't playing that well. Out comes Stroud, Verhoeven, and Tarke, playing with a ton of energy. It was nice to see these guys get extended time, and build the lead the way they did.
Looks like Tarke and Stroud are getting a lot of playing time..
Tarke finally getting some time. 6 boards in his 9 minutes of action. Stroud leading all scorers with 10 and 13 minutes of court time.
Forgot Teich was in Birmingham. He probably wishes he was in El Paso.
Damn Lathon has been sloppy with the ball. Meanwhile, Edwards continuing to show he’s more than a 3 pt specialist.

Vila just had a drive from the top of the key and finishes with a dime to Williams and the dunk. Beautiful pass.
Miners are getting really sloppy with the ball. Lead almost down to single digits.
We have definitely played down to competition on a couple occasions. Look nothing like we did against NMSU. No urgency or sense that the game could be in danger, seems to lead to complacency.
Have you guys ever played organized basketball?? Not playing down to competition. There this one time in my playing days long time ago . we won a game 39-9 . we couldve scored more but coach didnt let us. Games like this give terry a chance to coach and run his plays.
Yes have played bb. And yes, they played down to the competition. No urgency. Didn’t take care of the details. Played everybody. Definitely played down to the competition. It happens.
Your example doesn’t equate. Terry didn’t call off the dogs like your coach did. He did run stuff he wouldn’t ordinarily have run, but he didn’t tell them not to score.
Ugly. The best we played all game was when we had our bench in there in the first half. If we play this way against UNM we are going to get killed.
We won’t. It’ll be all business against UNM. Tried many different looks and therefore had a lack of cohesion that our regulars have developed.
Key words "Play Everybody" thats calling off the dogs. Im sure Terry could have run up the score. But it shows Terry has some class not like that BYU coach.

Even our starters struggled. Wasn’t just because we played everybody. In fact “everybody” played as well as or better than our starters.
Terry played the starters the majority of the second half. Like the game against NM Highlands, I thought we were outplayed by a scrappy ENMU team in the second half. Like Maniac mentioned, it was really our second team that built the lead in the first half. You have to give the ENMU team credit for playing hard throughout the game. We will need to be much more focused for UNM.
But that’s what’s soooo good about this team is that we actually have some solid depth!
It was probably a bit harder to get up for this game sandwiched in between NMSU and UNM. They better be ready for UNM.

Wow. That was textbook "How NOT To Play Basketball". Holy fvckcakes. That was some UGLY, AWFUL basketball. Efe Odigie was gawd awful in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.
After a sweet win vs NMSU, I did not expect to see our Miners play such ... just no words to truly describe how awful our guys were.
We are going to get absolutely embarrassed by even half-assed teams if we play like this again. OMG this was fvcking awful.

Even at only 2-0 like fans, players start "feeling" themselves (thinking they're the shit). It was a big emotional let down from beating NMSU who had beat us 9 in a row. It happens. I think like the fans the players didn't realize they had a game tonight. The positive is that the backups played great in the 2nd part of the first half. But overall they were thinking of beating NMSU or looking forward to UNM. The sky isn't falling.
I thought and I guess everyone else did too that the trimmed down Efe would show improvement with moves and quickness in the post. Instead; he missed open layups again like last year. Just don't understand how with his size, he can't get up and dunk the damn ball. Crazy!
Efe seemed like he was trying too damn hard to put some points on the board. There was a stretch where he took, and missed, four straight shots. Missed a couple wide open teammates in the process. It all took place in about a 2 minute span. CRT had enough, yanked his azz, and immediately put Vila back in.
With that said, he was far from the only guy off last night.

His numbers last year were a product of volume/usage. In reality Terry wanted to redshirt Efe last year. He will be a good backup this year.
He also tried to go after Braxton Meah for 2020, despite having Efe and Eze. We will see a center in the next class for sure.
It might have been the Tech game, but I have seen him dunk.
Our defense was bad last night. Against the press, we struggled....to say the least. Boom is NOT a good replacement for Lathon dispite what some suggested earlier this week. He is too careless and is out of control. Our shooters shot crap.
It's cool...play like crap....win....I'm ok with that.

Efe had a one handed dunk against NM Highlands. I give him tons of credit for dropping all the weight. However, he is not an explosive athlete, and will never be one. Even at 6'8" or so, he will not be a guy who will be dunking in games, and will have trouble finishing against players with length and athleticism. Simply put, he is a guy who plays below the rim.
In terms of the inconsistency offensively, I attribute it mostly to the inexperience in the backcourt. In particular, I thought Lathon was solid versus NMSU, and very average against ENMU. Boum has also been up and down offensively. While we did pull off the win last night at home, there is no way we will win against better teams, especially on the road, with poor guard play. That said, I think most of us knew there would be growing pains in the backcourt this year.
I think we’ll see a much more polished backcourt against UNM, much like the one we saw against NMSU. I also think Boum’s outside game will click this upcoming week.
Defensively we are also going to have to play like we did against NMSU. They sit at 2nd in the nation in FG%. Shoot 37.9% from 3 as a TEAM, and nearly 64% from the field overall. Will be another good test.

I don’t understand the hate for efe... I am sorry but he will be a great 6th man this year, he has above average footwork in my opinion only gets crap because he plays below the rim.... for a true sophomore he is a good player that will play valuable minutes in what had be a good team..
Who FKN Cares!!!!! Everyone Calm Down. Geez it happens sometimes a Better team plays down to competition. Why some of you sound like your panicking after a meaningless game to E. New Mexico is beyond me.
i agree some people here think they are experts. Maybe they should get into coaching.
