UTEP vs SHSU

Kept Wilkerson in check until late. Sakho was quiet in 2nd half with only one jam down under, but no threat. Bynum had 2 big 3's that were needed as Barnes as well. Free throws were made when needed.

I know there are a lot of dumb people in El Paso, but there’s this thing called the internet and you can find out when ANY team is playing next. That’s a really poor excuse to not know when the next game is or being unable to look it up in 10 seconds.
What do you think this country is made up of ?

Good week, but we did what we should do - hold serve at home. We gotta do it again next week.

Then the rubber hits the road, literally and figuratively. 5 of the next 7 on the road. Get through that relatively unscathed, then we can start thinking big.

Another good win. I really like the team chemistry that's been on display. Good to see Bynum find his shot again tonight. Our bigs, as a unit, seem to be improving which I love. Kalu is the kind of story that we may not get again. He has been frustrating to watch for 3 years but this year has blossomed into a decent big man. He's the only player that has been with us for 4 years since... I don't even remember when. What a game from Terrell. He's a leader and becoming a good PG for us. These guards are fun to watch.

Now about the crowd. I still think the crowd could have been better. Yes, I know "5700 is good for a mid-major blah blah blah" but I still think we are better than this. As a matter of fact, this isn't good enough for the MWC. I'm pretty sure New Mexico had like 12k last night against Nevada. We need to keep winning a rebuilding the fan base with young fans so we can get where we need to be again.

UNLV had 5,182 for SJSU tonight (18,000 seat arena)
Air Force had 2,482 for Wyoming tonight

Looks like UTEP fits right in

Was there with my family of 5 tonight. Spent $162 on tickets. Was not going to pay $50 each but damn I had to try to get decent seats. Kappy capitalized on sports talk on Friday that the prices for seats are ridiculous and I agree especially when you’re trying to get as many fans to the games.
High prices for good seats, hardly any promotions, and typical local halftime performances will not bring in the average fan.
And I’ve noticed the low amount of food options now at the games other than concession stands. Used to have a wide variety of other vendors at the games and now there are only three extra vendors. Not much of a variety.
Miners are quick and aggressive on defense and it’s showing how teams are not prepared for it. Shooting has improved significantly. We are 8-9 deep.
I’ll be getting back from Austin on Saturday but I’ll try everything I can to make it to the game. Hoping for at least 8K. It will help that NMSU will bring about 1.5-2K at least.
Our team already deserves better from the city and our own athletics department.

Look, we are always complaining on here and demanding more of UTEP sports. This year they have done their part for the most part. We can demand more from fans now. UTEP can definitely be better with marketing too

Good win by the miners!

Golding's fascination with not defending the rim put us off to a slow start defensively, but Barnes kept us in there. Golding tried Thomas and Horton for a few minutes before tightening the reigns down to 8. Jones backed up Frazier from there on out and Hamilton had a nice game behind Kalu. Terrell plays well in all facets, but just doesn't pose much of a scoring threat. Golding had a scoring lineup out there a few times with Barnes, Bynum and Camper.

The few minutes around half time were pretty bad and the miners slowed down in the last 4-5 minutes (instead of pushing for the double bonus), but other than that these are the best 2 games I've seen at home in a long time. We have a good starting 5, a 6th man and two more bigs that can mix and match 10-20 minutes behind Frazier and Kalu.

Aside from that horrible early loss I would say that Golding is doing a decent job in year 4. It's NCAA or bust for me, but he currently seems to have a shot.
