Re: Wichita State coach agrees to $3.3 million to stay.....
I think its a catch 22 situation. Fans need to invest into the program by participation (as much as that hurts) to earn enough of a bankroll to improve and advance the program. But for today's "satisfaction now!!!!" generation, that's just not a viable option.
The article reads like the deal isn't done between UT-A & Smart. Seems like there's financial cleaning up between Smart & VCU before Smart is assumed to be the next MBB coach at UT-A. Smart's brand of basketball is exciting - should be able to recruit the kind of athlete he seeks a lot easier at Austin - because of the sheer magnitude of that program & conference. If Smart is signed to a contract.
Did you see some of the terms of the buyout at VCU? Sure beats our "iron clad" coaches agreement signed on toilet paper that Stull has them sign. A $500,000 buyout fee, and has to have a home and home game. At least a benefit to losing the coach.
