What once looked like a potentially promising season…

Jim Senter’s words in November 2017…

“The mark on the wall is we’re going to compete for and win championships,” Senter said. “That’s the threshold. That’s a level we want to rise to. Now it’s my job as the athletic director and our administrative team is to give our coaches and student-athletes the tools it takes to do their job. I think in many instances, we’re giving many of our programs the tools and the resources to do their job, I expect them to maybe do it at a better level and a higher level than they’ve been getting it done.”

I wholeheartedly agree that Golding needs to go, but if that’s the focus, our focus is at least in part, misdirected. Senter has NOT done the job he said he’d do. 7+ years. That’s more than enough time to build an athletics program and win at least a conference championship in both revenue sports. You trust him to replace Golding with someone better? He is problem ONE at UTEP. So tired of this guy.

Can't agree more Fanatico, but I can't see Wilson pulling the trigger on Senter, especially with his contract expiring in August 2026. My bet is that he gets another hire. Gawd help us.

You’re right, Train. Senter is with us for another year…at least.

Whereas a Senter hire that replaces Golding gives us something different, I don’t trust the guy to make a decent pickup, especially for basketball. I just don’t think he “knows” his sh!t. Furthermore, I don’t trust the length of the contract he’d sign a guy to, leaving a new AD handcuffed for a few years. It’d be like us stuck breathing in Senter’s fart while he chuckles as he exits the room.

For whatever reason, today’s loss was kind of a tipping point for me. Not sure why this particular loss, considering so many of the other losses. Maybe it’s just been building. As an attempt at some form of catharsis, I emailed Senter his own words (the paragraph above), and in addition, asked about the tools and accountability of which he spoke, and asked if he was a man of his word. His response…

Thanks for your email and sharing your thoughts. We will continue to strive for championships. Nothing is a straight line like many think. Go Miners! JS

The NMSU game was really when things went downhill. I really thought this team was going to be one of the better teams we have seen in recent years. Now, UTEP is tied for 7th place.
We actually rebounded well from that debacle, winning the next two on the road. The Jacksonville State loss, while not nearly as embarrassing, was actually the beginning of our woes, as it began our curent streak of winning on three of the last eleven games.

Well he’s not going to put anything “spicy” in his email replies. All his emails are subject to FOIA requests.

That timeline coincides with Camper's ankle injury. He clearly hasn't been the same. At the same time, WKU came in with multiple guys out, and still pulled out the win. Not an excuse, but an observation.

I don't know why I get my hopes up when we have these above average starts to the season. Senter needs to demand that Golding wind the conference tournament or we part ways.

Nor would I expect anything “spicy”. However, if you’re gonna take time to respond…then address the question or comment. His response was babble, and I’m damn near sure he demonstrated his ceiling for capacity of thought, in actuality.

I was waiting for a friend after the game by the tunnel. Senter was one of the first few people to leave the game. He simply doesn't care.

Yeah. He doesn’t seem to give too much of a sh!t. He’s definitely coming out on top. UTEP gives him more than he gives UTEP.

We talk about coach buyouts at times. UTEP should pay this clown to get the fvck outta town.
