Where is JOE GOLDING?

As of yesterday the portal is officially open…any word on David Terrell? Wouldn’t we love to have him back. I almost feel like he has a ton of leverage as well in being able to at least ask for decent NIL. If I’m him I ask for decent compensation and if UTEP doesn’t match your needs you walk. You look at the roster and you’re basically talking about a full overhaul. Aside from Terrell I’m so shocked of how this team looks on paper and was put together.

-Rick Pitino was asked this week how he handles recruiting now . “You recruit almost no freshman. Once you have your 1 or 2 incoming freshman you stop there and look for transfers and graduate transfers,”

Being that there’s been no news about an extension of Golding you’re literally looking for 2 to 3 guys that you feel are going to save your job IMO. If you don’t bring in a big man transfer that can rebound AND score start looking to sell your home within the year Joe. Me personally I’m on the side of we should be going in a new direction NOW, but if the administration is going to let him finish the last year, Golding and his staff better exhaust every option to bring in talent. Charge the credit cards, take out payday loans, because there is no next season JOE! For those that are satisfied with Golding and his staff, I pray for you.

Who and how are you going to get them to El Paso Joe? He’s in a horrible and I mean awful position unless the collective and the school have given him full monetary support to go find some studs . The “we pay every player evenly across our NIL” isn’t going to get the job done. You pay the best and rewarding talent the MOST! I was stunned when I heard that’s how we handle our NIL for at least basketball.

DT is gonna be gone and we’ll probably be left with JG for another disappointing season. Hopefully the low crowds reflect how us fans will not accept below mediocrity anymore.

If he was gonna get bought out almost schools would have announced it by now. In UTEP’s case do they have to run everything by Texas Board of Regents ? I thought right after the conf loss he was toast. With so much time I’m on the other side . Attendance will suffer so bad next season that “maybe” they are still deciding ? Or working out the buyout clause .

To be fair, Golding is always picking up the scraps. Any big time recruiting battle he faces, he loses. Member when he was dumbfounded when Onyema entered the portal? Golding is oblivious to how a good mid major program should run.

I thought the same, expecting to see a few names of kids UTEP has contacted. I dont expect to be in a list with Auburn, North Carolina, Florida, UCONN etc, but when I see kids are being contacted by Fresno State, Bradley, Southern Illinois for example, and not a peep with UTEP then I know we will sign a 6-7 205 stretch forward out of Juco, a 6-1 165 guard, and a kid originally from Texas who is transferring from Wyoming and averaged 2.7 points but is a great kid.

Just to plays devils advocate, he did bring in a former top 100 HS and JUCO All American that provided hope and aspirations just months ago and now Golding had to cut him (Bloomquist) [Golding cuts AB]. It blew up in Goldings face bringing in a former top recruit like Bynum. Floyd went full high risk recruiting and that was disaster that was a partial reason for his ouster.

Then you go to the opposite end of the spectrum and you get Baylor Hebb Golding brought in. Totally coachable, hard worker, no attitude, don't have to worry about a call from PD or a social media push notification at the butt crack of dawn "UTEP player arrested", and the right moxy shown on the court. Problem is he just was not the right fit at UTEP. The speed of the game at this level appeared to elude him and when he was hot, he was hot, but many times not. However, there were times he was Johnny on the spot with a three or provided valuable minutes. But, he was no game changer as compared to Bynum.

Third, Golding brought in Barnes. He ran the offense, he slashed and dashed into the paint. He left it out on the floor and at times when Frazier was getting double teamed. Golding played him less as the season went on.

You can't get a "sure fire" with every recruit. Fans have a right to expect consistency from the HC coaching the game.

In this day and age in most years 60% of your team at this level will be turned over. Last year was an exception. None of the players you mentioned will be the face of Utep Basketball next year!
