Could be a little of both, but too early. 100% though he shouldn’t have been expected to be ahead of Skylar or Shay in spring ball. He is literally learning a whole new playbook. Let’s see how it if he improves by fall!Is it reasonable to think that Nelson’s INTs and staring down receivers is due to still learning the playbook? Or is that the orange koolaid talking?
That’s true. If he does well, he will go to a bigger school. If he stinks, he will go and try it at a similar or smaller school. Where they will celebrate his 5 star status and make outrageous predictions like some did here. It’s pretty clear that no matter how the season goes, good or bad, he’s only sticking around for one year.
Why did u think Walden’s offensive would change, that’s shame on you. His offensive is his offense, period. The effectiveness of how it’s ran is what matters and will determine how the season goes. Oh and also it was spring ball and Nelson should’ve looked awful in a new offense, I don’t know if you know how football and practices work?!The offense looks the same as last year. Even the same old sideline passes that would end up nowhere are still being used. I had high hopes that Malachi Nelson would make UTEP great but he looks awful. No wonder he couldn't make it at USC and Boise State. Not impressed by the QB situation and no changes to the offense. I would be surprised if UTEP breaks .500 this season.
I hope not. He’s only hurting himself going from stop to stop, and system to systemIt’s pretty clear that no matter how the season goes, good or bad, he’s only sticking around for one year.
UTEP should be recruiting international and high school players. Fill out the roster with portal and jucos if needed.Agree or disagree …. I think the freshman class is where you should be looking … with all this portal nonsense I think it’s harder than ever before to get a d-1 scholarship coming from high school outside your 4-5 star players …
You think? I like that Locklear is making a strong case for the job, but I wonder if Malachi was promised first crack. Ultimately if the job wasn’t promised to Malachi the job will be won/lost not in the fall and not spring ball. What I don’t want is for the QBs to platoon like they were doing last year. It's the playbook, he has an arm and can be accurate. He could have taken more NIL money (elsewhere,) I think if he sticks it out through fall, he will eventually be the starter. Let's not kid ourselves, Walden is going to have Skyler start. Smith looked good though, and I hope he gets a legit shot. Personally, I think things look much better going into year 2 with Walden. They really need to snag an experienced WR. I would be shocked to not see Nelson as the starter come conference play.
I feel good about finding 7 diamonds in the rough that everybody else overlooked.I was going to say the same thing: look at the schools we are competing for players with. SMH. Most of the schools we are competing with are not even good or average mid majors. And not only that, but we can’t even get these kind of players to commit to us.
Trey Cardwell is the grandson of Jack Cardwell. Jack was a founder of Petro and C&R Distributing. Jack's son, Jim, donated the money for the new floor in the Don Haskins CenterWho is Trey Cardwell? How did he get rich? I couldn't find anything about him online.
That’s it?The offense isn’t going to look different. It is what it is. It’s wide splits and run as many plays as you can. Which means simple.
Bold Prediction: Shay Smith starts at quarterback.
Hearing Nelson is getting paid $30,000.
