UTEP vs La Tech.

Those fans are probably gone now. Time to try it again.
Just playing devil's advocate but UTEP may, I said may, have found a solution. Floor seating for those fans you mentioned. They get good service and good seating and don't have to mess with the students or those who stand most of game in front of them.

Now then again, from the panning of the crowds on the screen, I see Tio with his cup of beer and also Mesh cap, square toe boot (formally "French Toe Boots") wearing dad with his beer as well. I see a lot of women as well. I do see kids which is always good.

So I am actually agreeing with Corona but also saying lets call a spade a spade and it appears UTEP is trying to address the issue.

Now, if....IF, UTEP beats Sam the Aggie game is going to have way more people and let see what happens?

Here’s an off topic observation from last night’s game, and one that’s been a consistent problem at UTEP basketball games for years. UTEP needs to get either students or interns to serve as the “mop guys” whenever the floor needs it. These kids that UTEP uses are totally useless. All they do is just push the broom around in circles and not even doing what they’re supposed to do. It’s embarrassing that the officials actually have to direct them where to clean up, and even then the kids don’t do it right. Only the UTEP way. 🤡

If we are going to star accepting these small crowds then it starts with the athletic department. They need to start closing off the higher rows to push everyone down. If we pushed everyone down with last nights crowd, it would have been a good environment.
The old people will put a stop to that. They don’t want the $9.15 people sitting close to them and standing up during the game.

There were many complaints from them when the 2009 CBI was general admission seating. Complaining that others were in their regular seats.

Maybe it’s time to accept that this is who we are now and the reality of the world we live in. The days of big crowds were great, but for now, they’re behind us. Let’s take pride in the fact that our attendance is still the envy of 80% of the teams at our level. Change won’t happen overnight, and that’s okay. If we make a couple of NCAA Tournaments and still struggle to draw 6,000 fans, then we can start to worry.

Nope, doesn’t matter. The kids care about the coaching staff, NIL, and gear. Everything else is marginal. LaTech has a decent team and they get 1/3 of the crowd UTEP does. Tune into their CUSA opener and look at the crowd they get.

The San Jose St team that beat UTEP gets 200 people to their games. Their arena is small enough, that you could usually count them all up if you wanted.

Attendance only matters to ADs and (some) fans of teams that don’t win anything.
"Flex ticketing" and we have seen UTEP offer this. But nothing cures ills like winning.

OT: Polar Vortex hitting on Valentine's Day

Here we go again. Not as bad as prior years but high winds. Bring the pets in.

I think a full stadium will help with recruiting which will help have better teams which will help with attendance.

I think you make the price of attendance in the cheap seats very low, and discounts for kids / family. Do what you have to to fill the stadium in football and basketball. It's more fun with more people, both for the fans and the players. Make some back on increased concession sales.

I think a full stadium will help with recruiting which will help have better teams which will help with attendance. Then you can start raising the prices when people actually start to view it as an enjoyable way to spend some time.

OT: College Football 2024🏈🏟

Texas will play for a national championship. Easy semis win in the home state of Texas.
Doubt that. A series of coaching blunders yesterday led to Arizona State being tied with them (why on earth on those last two possessions was Texas even throwing the ball. Should’ve just ran it and run the clock out). Ohio State is a much better team than AZ State. Been a great run but it ends next Friday

Good win. Disappointing crowd. We didn't shoot well but we hustled in other areas that made a difference. I hope this showed the team that they can win in other ways when shots aren't falling. Huge minutes my Jones today after Golding got in his face. What a response by him. I was also impressed with Bynum. Despite not hitting a shot, he still made some great hustle plays. Sometimes shooters give up when shots aren't going down but Bynum found a way to contribute while not scoring. Otis is so consistent which is what we need from our senior leader. I was impressed with the way they handled Bancho on defense too.

Bring a friend to the game on Saturday we need to do better Miner fans. Go MinersTournament.

crowds from 15 years ago were always a little older. Those fans have aged out. It's going to take time for UTEP to build a fan base with the younger people in El Paso. UTEP needs to make the NCAA tournament.

There are many reasons past that why attendance is down. It's an issue across all of G5.
- lack of success. Not the most exciting style of play out of Golding teams, although I enjoy it and this years team is really fun to watch. Casuals don't like defensive basketball typically, unless they are winning.
- games are cheaper from home on terrible ESPN+. UTEP needs to lower ticket prices, have some type of special where all tickets are $9.15 and market the hell out of it.

BTW, in my opinion, this was easily one if the best defensive games that a Golding coached UTEP team has played. Yes, we lead the nation in steals and forced turnovers again, but this is usually at the cost of giving up some easy shots and way too many offensive boards. In this game we defended well, holding them to 40% FG and 28% 3FG, and, while we were still outrebounded overall, the margin was closer than usual against a good team, and we actually had more offensive boards and 2nd chance points (thanks Frazier!) than they did. We only shot 37% FG and 20% 3FG, but thanks to our D still won by 10. I hope that we can continue this caliber of defense the rest of the year.
Didnt shoot well from the field but this team does something last years team didnt: they take advantage of the turnovers. To overcome the inevitable rebounding deficits. They have to score off turnovers, and they did it tonight.

If you told me earlier today that Bynum would go scoreless, I would have said UTEP is losing. But other guys stepped up in a big way to overcome the lack of production out of Bynum. This might have been UTEPs most impressive win of the season... Bynum won't be cold like that every game.
