BREAKING: Miners currently hosting a transfer QB and former five-star recruit

No it’s not. Curt Cignetti took 3-9 Indiana to the CFP in year 1. He recruits and plays against Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan and other Big 10 schools.

Jerry Kill took 2-10 NMSU to 7-6 and won a bowl game in his first year. NMSU is an all-time bottom tier FBS job.
Indiana is a bad example…. They got crushed by Ohio state and barely beat a mid Michigan team …. They didn’t play anyone good in the big 10

Are We On The Precipitous Of A UTEP Golden Era

My point is chill with all this hype and let things play out and have realistic expectations or you’re just gonna look dumb like other UTEP fans have over the past 7-10 years.

Jim Senter promised championships in his introductory press conference, talked a big game and hasn’t came close to delivering anything he promised.

I want UTEP to succeed as much as anyone but let’s see how things come together before we start hyping shit only to get disappointed like UTEP fans have been doing for decades.
Don’t pay that maricon any attention. He’s just playing a mega fan character.

Are you related to Fili? 🤡

I think “the point” is pretty clear. We are a below average university with poor leadership and poor coaching in a crappy athletic conference. We’ll upgrade to a better conference soon. But what are we going to do with the other two issues?

And your point is? We already know all that. It's no point being negative all the time.

You're being negative for no reason. Calm down and enjoy the signing.

Does ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ QB transfer affect ticket sales?

El Paso football fans will know all about him by the time the season starts. He's the highest rated athlete to ever sign with UTEP. There will definitely be a boost in attendance. (whether small or large). Especially if he's able to produce and the wins start coming.
And what if we lock in a few more standout players because of this signing??
He’s not Zion or LeBron James. He’s not an established college star. If wins come, fans will come regardless of who is the QB.

Fans didn’t show up when Aaron Jones played here and he was a local kid. The best local player ever and you think people will just show up for this guy. Not happening.

Nobody knows who this guy is. The average ticket buyer isn’t buying tickets to see 1 guy play. He’s not Shauder Sanders or Dillion Gabriel and we shouldn’t expect him to be.

Are We On The Precipitous Of A UTEP Golden Era

This weekend we signed the most prestigious player in UTEP history to join our football team. Our team is coached by a very enthusiastic young coach who clearly loves our community and wants to succeed. Anyone who watched our football team this past season would have to agree things appeared to be clicking and getting on the right path on the late back-end of the schedule.
Our basketball team is 12-3 and face a very favorable conference schedule. 20 wins should be a walk and a conference title and NCAA tourney appearance look likely.
Soon we will be in the MWC something people on this board have begged and cried for years over. Our leadership (Senter, Golding, Walden) look strong and our future is looking very good.

UTEP basketball and football have had one winning season in CUSA play under Jim Senter but our leadership looks strong.

I’m old enough to Remember when we were going to be a CUSA monster with Mike Price and Tim Floyd starting the 2010 decade.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to turn a football program around in one year, but highly improbable. You’re describing two success stories compared to maybe 10 failures. Yeah, kudos to those coaches for turning their programs around in one year. The reality is, it’s not that easy. If it was that easy, everyone including you would be a football coach.

Bingo.

20 pass attempts, 1 INT in his collegiate career and . If you listen to the BBOC podcast in August they reported Nelson was getting outplayed daily by the 38th ranked player in Utah (Madsen). Collin Wilson and Stuckey had a good inside source and I was very high on Nelson going to Boise from a betting standpoint but he never made any noise and there was some pretty bad things said about him.

Gonna be funny when Locklear or McConnell or the new freshman start over him. I like the upside the freshman from SA has over this potential Diva.

Calm down dude. You're more negative than Kane (and that's saying a lot).

Why would you suddenly sell thousands more tickets for a guy who couldn't see the field at two different schools?

Now if you had gotten Arch Manning to leave Austin for UTEP, that's a different story.

Not to make excuses, but it’s harder to turn a football team around in one year as compared to basketball.

We know another guy that recruits well but can't coach. He's down at UT right now coaching the men's basketball team.
That’s a valid point Killer. Again, I’m cautiously optimistic about Walden turning things around. Im just pointing out that he’s been able to recruit good talent to EP, while other coaches had excuses. We did have a couple of close losses that could have ended up in wins. I’m not drinking the kool aid yet, but he’s moving in the right direction. Many of us asked for a QB transfer and he’s getting us that guy. Let’s see what the new QB can do.

I was also an outspoken critic of the guy that’s now at UT and saw him as a great recruiter, but a poor coach. Not to make excuses, but it’s harder to turn a football team around in one year as compared to basketball. This is just based on the number of players involved in football. Next season will be the big test for Walden to show what type of coach he is. It will be his second season at UTEP and the pressure is on him to have a winning season. We will have two returning QBs that played considerably last year, good receivers, a good RB, and a decent OL. We lost some good talent on the defensive side via graduation and transfers. I’ve stated before we need to revamp our special teams and bring in a better coach, kicker and punter. Let’s see what Walden can do in his second season.
