Rarely, if ever. What school has gone from zero to being a consistent power in your lifetime? I was looking at the NCAA Football national Champions and it’s the same schools that win: Bama, LSU, one of the three Florida schools, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio St., Clemson. You have to go back to 91 with Washington and 1990 with Colorado/Ga Tech before you got some weird outlier teams. The super elite teams have enough money to keep the competition down. They can spend more money than anyone else. TCU and Boise State have tried but they can’t shatter the glass ceiling. The question is: are these one year turn arounds being sustained. NMSU doesn’t appear to be. Time will tell about Indiana.
So if you win one year is that turning a program around? I think the the answer is No.
This is the home of 66 Champs and 92 Sweet 16 baby! Home of the 2010, 2014, and 2021 New Mexico Bowl participants too! All 6 home games will be sold out before September thanks to Malachi the savior!!!

A mcDonalds all American, top 20 overall recruit! And he was one of the worst teammates I ever saw wear a UTEP jersey. If I recall correctly, he didn't even finish the year. It was good riddance.
I'm extremely hyped about Nelson's signing but it's silly to think one player is going to move the needle with attendance before they've taken a snap. After the opening game, Utep attendance is 100% dependent on team success after years of failure.
And let us not forget Fred Rouse. We all forget this completely forgettable "highly ranked" transfer? Keith Frazier.

God damn!!!Are you related to Fili? 🤡
I think “the point” is pretty clear. We are a below average university with poor leadership and poor coaching in a crappy athletic conference. We’ll upgrade to a better conference soon. But what are we going to do with the other two issues?
Couldn’t wait to listen to KROD 600AM Sportstalk today especially with how well our basketball team is doing, the biggest signing in UTEP football history, the buzzer beater win by the women’s basketball team, and the generous $2.5 million donation to UTEP annnnddd..
KROD: best we can do is let you listen to the FCS championship.
Are you kidding me?!
How about both?( Maybe this dream will be true?? What else did you dream?? Who will win the Superbowl??what about the lottery numbers?UNLV instead of Hawaii.
Im on ticketmaster and I can seat anywhere i wants for $350 and under.
Once again stupid. Since those are the most expensive seats for sale.
People start complaining about paying more than $20 for a ticket. My pair was significantly more than that. I heard of people spending four figures on a single ticket.
Casual and neutral fans will be showing up to see a “5 star recruit”. Having a 5* QB is a great marketing tool towards the casual/neutral fans as it will increase curiosity and give UTEP someone to focus their marketing on. It is a lot easier to convince someone to go buy tickets and see a game if there is a 5* recruit or a new coach or some other driving factor. That’s fine and dandy. There are already a few “smart guys” suggesting EP is going to turn out for Nelson just because he’s a “5 star recruit”.
Is it still the same system to access them through UTEP’s Ticketmaster? I remember having such a horrible time trying to transfer tickets to someone a few years ago that I only get physical season tickets now.
That’s fine and dandy. There are already a few “smart guys” suggesting EP is going to turn out for Nelson just because he’s a “5 star recruit”.It goes back to the university to properly market and move tickets. The first home game of the season doesn’t have trouble getting 30k plus, and it’s on the university to get the word out.
Most of the casual fans will see a 5* QB and be interested to see at least the first game. Most people couldn’t name a single player on this year’s team but showed up to see what the new coach was about (not a great first impression but still).
I would like to see UTEP send out some people to sell tickets at different events, maybe have a kiosk at the Chihuahuas games for example.
Jones played on some bad teams and in a tough to watch offense.

The first home game of the season doesn’t have trouble getting 30k plus, and it’s on the university to get the word out.A lot of them obviously don’t. Since the common excuses we hear is that they don’t know when UTEP plays or how to buy online tickets.
Jones wasn’t a 5 star recruit but he was here for 4 years and played in front of sub 20k crowds his last 4 home games. Hey, go ahead and believe people will buy tickets to see 1 relatively unknown QB.
Is it still the same system to access them through UTEP’s Ticketmaster? I remember having such a horrible time trying to transfer tickets to someone a few years ago that I only get physical season tickets now.The walk up line at one ticket booth in cold temps will keep people away. Yes there are online options but as you can see, there are fans that are not comfortable using that option. UTEP and its athletic dept need to also accommodate these fans. They are obviously interested and buying tickets so don’t make it more difficult for them.
