This board is AWESOME right now....Great conversations, discussions, etc.....thanks

More importantly, my thoughts (for what it's worth) on hoops.

While it sucks to say this so many years into Floyds tenure, there are SOOOOOO many new pieces to this year's puzzle. With so many new players, i can somewhat understand the lack of cohesiveness this early in the season. Honestly, doesn't it take some time to jell? Of course it does. We have some very good talent on this team. I think once they get some more games under their belt to work on playing together, I think they will be fine.

Against UTA, the guards couldn't throw it in the ocean from the side of the boat. I still believe our weakness will be when our guards are having an off night, like the last 2 games. Winn is a DAMN good inside player. Vint would be better if he didn't have the vince I-gotta-bitch-about-every-non-call hunter attitude. Vint was hacked all night saturday. no doubt. But whining about it hurt us even more. Thomas looks like a scared freshman.

Don't be so quick to jump on and off the wagon. This team will end up pretty damn good.....just watch.

Good post. Major move up for Thomas, but I see his confidence getting better as the games go by. Being a big man is his and Vint's curse. Refs automatically nail a big man because he's tall and assume he can't move his feet as good as forwards and/or guards. If they did move like them, wouldn't coaches put them in a 3 spot?

I had a coach who used to tell me how funny it was to watch a pick up game amongst team mates. The guards always want to play center and vice versa.

Good post. I don't want to jinx this board and talk about the disappearance of you know who. But I'm sure they're lurking and hopefully taking note of what civil disagreement is about. I'll enjoy it while it lasts, cause one of them will be back. He has no shame.

People had way to high expectations for this team. We lost most of our scoring, rebounding, and best interior and perimeter defenders. This year was always going to be a rebuilding year, the schedule reflected that. I agree the team will get better. I look forward to getting omega back. I think he will suplant Artis as the starting pg. I have been disappointed in Artis, we are seeing the guy who underwhelmed at Oregon. I hope he stops being stuborn and accepts coaching. He has potential if he buys into the system and works on his game. The development of Thomas and Jones are the key to this teams success. The good news is that this conference is terrible. It looks like La Tech is decent and everyone else is mediocre or awful.

I agree as well, excellent post. I especially like your first sentence. Yes, the team will be fine as they play more games.

I too was a little duped into thinking they were better than the are. Those early games showed the potential of this team, but we are going to have to develop a lot before we reach it. Something Floyd will do before conference play starts is whittle down playing time which will help with chemistry. When Harris returns this will become another complication of this team which I don't see him fitting in much with what we have. Funny last year we had two guards and that was about it, this year we don't have enough basketballs to go around to keep all our guards happy.

This lack of cohesion has been a hallmark of Floyd's teams since he's been here. Every year there's a revolving door of players and everyone is trying to find their role. I admit a 6 - 0 start looked more promising than recent years, but now we've all been brought back down to Earth. Well, at least by UT-Arlington. The NMSU game is winnable if they don't wait 10 minutes to start playing basketball at the beginning of the game.

What I do not believe, however, is that (assuming) Omega Harris is eligible that all with be sweetness and light. Our problems are mostly with our bigs, not our backcourt.

Will Omega's first game be Wash St or enemas u?

Should be Wash. State. Professors basically have until sundown Friday to post grades in certain situations, but not all. Athletes get their grades immediately, at least that's how it was when I was at UTEP.

When Omega Harris returns, I don't think it will be a complication nor do I think he will be out savior, but it will help because I like him better then T Trouchet in relief of D A.

GO MINERS

Lack of inside presence will be a problem all year. But, this team will play much better toward the end of conference than right now. We do have some bodies down low and assuming Buddha Jones gets back healthy, we could manage our inside game to make a good run in March.

I know that most of us thought that DA was going to be the difference maker for us. I bought into the pre season hype full tilt. He has shown he has some game, and I'm sure there's more of him that we haven't seen. However, his limitations are becoming increasingly evident, as is an attitude. With that said, I would not be surprised one bit to see Omega start at the point just as often as DA, once he gets into the swing of things. I could support that prediction with some stats but I don't want this to seem like I'm dumping on Artis, but I'd rather it come off as an affirmation of Omega's talent. If he has polished his finishing at the rim, even moderately, the ball will be in his hands a lot. The Miners need his explosiveness, especially with our lack of an interior game.
