Basketball Ticket Price Changes

Last night it was nice that the lowest price ticket vs NM highlands was $7

But-

Upcoming home games vs NMSU and UNM: $18.

Games against Pine Bluff & East Central: $10

CUSA games: $14

What do you guys think about this?
Is Senter & company banking on men's ball being the hottest ticket in town?


(If you take a family of four to the game vs UNM and sit in the nose bleeds, its gonna cost you $72)
 
I already pointed this out, but was labeled “cheap”, so good luck! I heard the attendance last night was under 4,000 last night. The NMSU game won’t sell out and unless they go on a double digit winning streak, there’s no chance of getting close to one, without cheap tickets.

I’m sure they’re looking at increasing total revenue, not necessarily sellouts.

If the average ticket price is $15 and you have 4,000 fans, you get $60k for tickets.

If the average ticket price is $10 and you have 6,000 fans, you get the same $60k.

However, 2,000 less fans are buying concessions, merchandise, and making an impression to return.

So while you may be right, UTEP is still wrong. You can’t charge more when your product hasn’t proved itself. By increasing prices, you’re not gaining any fans, just turning more people off to your money grab.

Even though, UTEP would never confirm this, I would guess their season ticket base has dropped by at least 50% since Floyd’s first year. Just an educated guess.

Here’s another way to look at it:

The steady game goers is a fairly stable #. Getting them to pay a little more is a logical path to increasing revenue. If you win and the band wagoners start coming, that’s gravy.

Assuming the band wagoners start coming and the steady people keep taking on your price increases.
 
I was a fan of the $5 flash sale for home opener football game vs Houston Baptist

It got people in the seats.

Athletics should try something similar with basketball games against lesser opponents (like NM Highlands)

So what? If you’re a fan interested in going, does it matter to you if someone else paid more before? Fact is, if you want to go to the game tonight, you can get in for $6, not $18 like to see UTEP vs NMSU.

This is true. But what if this is the case for the average fan, and fans actually decide to stay home.. and not fill up the Don. This could backfire.
 
Simple, and I said it on another thread, gotta make up the piss poor losses in revenue from football, so Senter and Co. are trying to make up losses in anyway they can, big time programs do this, we are nowhere near a "big time" program, but if UTEP was getting 20k per game for football, you wouldn't see Senter trying to cash in on his best product at hand right now. Just my 2 cents.

I would say the average El Pasoan would rather go to the movies than to a UTEP sporting event.

Is a winning basketball team enough to fill up the Don? I hope so!
 
Lowest regular priced tickets in the DFW area:

SMU - $15
TCU - $25

and TCU won't post ticket prices for most games until later. Games against Kansas, for example. Those are likely to go for more than $25.

El Paso just needs to stop being cheap. My wife and I average $60 - $80 for dinner out. Just dinner. With wine. And it's not uncommon for us to spend $100 with a nicer tip for better service.

$15 for a UTEP basketball game is more than affordable. Put down that $20 bill, get your ticket and $5 change and spend that change on a hot dog. You'll probably get change back on that dog too.

Or you can pay $176 for a family of 4 to attend 5 home games of their choice and take advantage of that 5 tickets for $44 special. That is a bargain for 5 events for a family of 4. You have the opportunity to watch NMSU, UNM, UTSA, WKU, and La Tech for $8 per ticket. People in EP want a winner but want to pay pennies to go watch it.

This thread is a classic example of why investors would never build big things in el Paso. People expect 5 start entertainment at bargain prices. It just doesn't work like that, though. You get what you pay for... or more correctly-- you don't get what you're unwilling to pay for....

The NMSU and UNM games would not part of the $44 for 5 special. Those are only for $10 games. Like East Central and Pine Bluff. So it would be more expensive

UTEP Athletics is not 5 star entertainment though. You can get into NBA games for less than $10. Only 3,738 fans decided to attend Tuesdays game. 7 years ago, UTEP had 8,564 to open the season versus Oral Roberts. Less than 50% of that are apparently unwilling to pay for “5 star entertainment” now.

Have you ever been to an NBA game? I’ve been to several, and have never found a decent seat for under $100.

True. A decent seat Knicks ticket at MSG(Not close but not far) runs about $200. And this is when they are the worst team in the NBA.

I go see the Bulls play in Phoenix and San Antonio every season unless the games are close to each other.

Decent seats are not what I’m talking about. Top Row at DHC for NMSU is $18, top row at bad NBA games are $5

The NBA also has billion dollar TV deals, revenue sharing etc... UTEP gets pennies and has bills to to pay. Senter has a football program that is operating in the red as well as woman athletics . You can't fault him for trying to generate some revenue for UTEP Athletics from the BB team. And I am no Senter fan. The prices he wants to charge are very affordable and reasonable for this years BB team. If people want to go watch NBA games for $5 , they are living in the wrong city and need to move.

I doubt you can get into an NBA game for $10. Maybe if the game is already late in the 3rd quarter and someone is still outside scalping for whatever they can get.

How is that the fans problem and burden? If a business is failing or isn’t making enough money, raising the prices on your marginally successful products isn’t it bro. If Ford started failing do you think they would raise the price of their Focus and Fusion models to try and make up for lost money? A smart consumer would turn elsewhere for a mid priced sedan.

It’s never the consumers fault you can’t do something right.
 
This thread is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve lived in Dallas and San Antonio for over 20 years and would have absolutely no problem paying these prices for a Utep basketball game. Yes, there Are NBA and even MLB cheap seats and I have seen Spurs and Ranger games where the tickets were less than$10. However, you somehow forget to mention the cost of parking, as well as concessions at these venues. Parking alone will cost a pretty penny. And if you want free parking, then good luck finding some that are within a 20 minute walk at minimum. You can continue to compare the “high” cost of tickets until your face turns blue, but seriously, put your big boy pants on and support the program and pay the price...smh...

Go to Ticketmaster right now on look up the Pacers. There are multiple under $10 options for Tuesdays game versus OKC. This is a common occurrence

Ah, so the solution is for you to move to Indianapolis. Get all the $10 Pacers tickets you want. You can always check how badly the Miners are doing on the internet when you're not rubbing it out watching that porn fail UTEP chick you like.

As for me, I don't live in Indianapolis nor do I care to. No offense to those who do. But if I lived in EP I'd very happily pay $20, $25 for a ticket. I'd pay whatever they're asking for them because UTEP tickets are CHEAP.

There is no NBA or NFL franchise in EP taking a large piece of the pie. You have the Chihuahuas and whatever other teams are competing for your sports entertainment funds. El Paso has little else competing for overall entertainment funds because, like USAFminersfan said, you're not going to get what you're unwilling to pay for.

Like SAMinerGirl said, put on your big boy pants and buy a ticket. Or move to Indianapolis.

You’re not required to buy tickets for any event. It doesn’t matter if EP doesn’t have anything else, you’re not required to go to any UTEP games.

You said there’s no way you can get a NBA ticket for less than $10, I proved you wrong and your response is “move to Indianapolis then”. Not the point.

Most consumers are smart, obviously not talking about anyone here though. Paying $18 for NMSU vs UTEP is dumb, especially when you can get better elsewhere for a lot less. UTEP needs cheap tickets now and they can always raise them when/if they start winning lots of games. Most people don’t put the cart before the horse, not UTEP though. If getting under 4K for a home opener is their goal, they’re knocking it out of the ****ing park dude!

We can go for hours of pointless business examples , $5 NBA tickets, The bottom line is if you are a UTEP fan, you want them to be successful. UTEP doesn't bring in a whole lot of revenue and money doesn't grow on trees, so you can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. The BB prices are very reasonable and affordable this year. So if they are too expensive compared to shitty NBA team tickets, then that is ok don't attend games, and keep being part of the problem, but don't bitch that UTEP always sucks. You can be part of the solution and support UTEP by purchasing affordable tickets. The more people that support the program, the more likely UTEP will be successful which is what we all want as UTEP fans. I live thousands of miles away but I purchase football and BB season tickets every year because I want to be part of the solution to fixing this athletic department. $70 to watch NMSU. UNM, WKU, UTSA, and LA Tech is laughable cheap.

Not to mention, the NBA teams play 3,600 games a year. We don't have that luxury. We need to generate money off of roughly 14 home games per year.

But as I've said previously, the kid ain't too bright. He doesn't get these things. Just leave him be..
