Can we call it a dumpster fire yet?

I wasn't ready to even after the Norfolk State loss, but now it's an official pile of crap. Floyd got out coached by one of the worst coaches in CUSA and a bad team.

Sadly, if we held on to Price for 7 losing seasons, I have zero faith that Stull sees the Floyd era as a failure. It's tragic that even a coach of Floyd's caliber can't win consistently here and yet Barbie and CBG could. Actually it's baffling why Floyd can't get it done. You can only blame the players for so long before it is you and not them......

This is a dumpster fire. Floyd is Stull's worst hire at UTEP. I think a good analogy for floyd is the star baseball player who gets busted for peds and for the rest of his career sucks without the peds.

In college it's always about the coach. He recruits the players. This is as low as the program has been since Rabadeaux.

I think we just hit rock bottom, this was our cal poly game for basketball for me...OOtsa really, I'm just sick. It pains me to say this but Coach Floyd needs to go, hope he does the right thing and resign.

It took all he got to out coach UNT and now lost to CUSA's second worst coach. I just kept fooling myself this year, even with injuries. He needs to go.

Please help!

Nothing to say really. Not even surprised by today's loss. I'm number to disappointment tis year. I've accepted a long time ago this team is not very good. I think we might be a .500 team at best

This team has so much individual talent along with supposed coaching talent and they can't get it done. I feel like the players gave up on Floyd, I wonder if constantly running players out of town will do that to a team.

I agree. We may be missing a couple of pieces of the puzzle but this team has enough talent to beat the UTSAs of the cbb world. This particular squad, like any other Floyd coached Miner team, plays without heart. CTF certainly does not draw out the best in each of them. In fact it appears the opposite is true.

Since Stull will not pull the trigger Floyd should resign. The UNLV coach got fired after losing on the road to Wyoming. Wyoming won the MW tournament in Vegas last season. Floyd lost to UTSA who was ranked 343 out of 351 division 1 schools.

Since Rice was fired UNLV has won two in a row. Rice was getting paid half of what Floyd makes. We are overpaying our coach to sit in 12th place out of 14 schools in a basketball league that ranks as one of the worst in the country.

I have seen enough and don't want to wait until next year or the end of the season. Floyd needs to leave now.

That was well said.

Sorry to have to agree. It is especially bad that it happens during the Anniversary of our greatest basketball moment. I am not for firing unless there is someone available who can make a difference. Need a plan or we will be here in three years saying the same thing. Any ideas Diggers?

Go Miners

I think if Floyd were to resign (which won't happen) but IF he did Johnson would go with him since they are besties. However, I truly believe that Cantu, Braswell, and Deweese could do as good or a better job for the remainder of the season. I would love Billy Clyde back. He is tearing it up at Ranger college. He is undefeated BUT had to forfeit 4 games at the beginning of the season because of an ineligible player. They have won all of the their games so far. He has "IT" and would never leave. Just not sure about him personally.

If you're looking for a coach that would stick around for a while, Billy G. is probably your best and maybe only bet. Of course the issue is the baggage is an even bigger issue than it was when he was here the first time. Winning and recruiting at the JC level is one thing. But, you better believe that every coach will be using whatever happened at Tech against him if he comes back to the D1 level.

As far our retreads go, the funny thing is that I think the personnel we currently have would fit Barbee's system the best. Someone said a while ago that he might be interested in coming back, but I'll believe it when I see it.

But, the fact is, where the program and college basketball are now, we're not going to see a coach stay long. Don Haskins isn't walking through that door any more. You have to make the right hires, hope you can keep the continuity going, have some sustained success in March, and hope you find a Mark Few. If you have a coach for a long time, it means you're generally slightly above average, not bad enough to get fired, not good enough to move on (see Willis Wilson at Rice).

I thought the word was that Barbee hated it in El Paso? In any case, I'm grateful for what he did while here and bringing him back wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but if rumors are true that he didn't like El Paso then I wouldn't count on it.

Billy G. does come with baggage. Any word on whether or not he beat his alcohol problem? Yeah, coaches would use it against him on the recruiting trail, but on the other hand Billy G. gets the most out of his players and knows how to build a team.

It's all hypothetical, because I believe Stull and Floyd believed this to be a rebuilding year (see our schedule) so they probably think next season will be the year. We'll just have to see. Next year won't be the year unless we can bring in some bigs who can contribute immediately.

Hell, most everybody loves a good redemption story. ;-)

So, what would the point be? The fact of the matter it is happening. Has been for a number of years.

Point is he has been successful EVERYWHERE in college he has coached. EVERYWHERE. He hasn't all of a sudden forgot how to coach. I was yelling for Price's head at year 5. I am now calling for Floyd's this year. BUT, I don't think anyone can claim he lost touch, can't coach, or doesn't care. He hasn't won....that he should be fired for. period.

Well then if it's not one of, or a combination of, the above cited examples you gave, how the hell can CTF all of a sudden not get it done? I don't think the answer is as complex as one might make it seem, personally.

I'm probably way off base here but bc I'm totally confused by his struggles here, I'm probably reaching- any chance he's trying to get fired, that way he doesn't look like the bad guy that left us and is good to try it again somewhere else?? Not saying that was his plan all along , but now that he's realizing he can't win here for whatever reason, looking for a way out and not looking like he quit on UTEP/El Paso....

I agree with Luca and Fanati. Obviously one of those things happened to him or else he'd be able to still get it done. I think THAT is the point.

I remain in a total state of confusion. I have permitted Miner basketball to be way too important in my life and I am suffering unbearable pain. I need to find other interests.1

LMAO! I can relate. Funny stuff. At least you're aware of it.

Remember, BG wanted to come back and coach when Floyd got hired, but the big boosters didn't want BG because of the way he left to A&M.

This is exactly true for me as well. Miner basketball consumes my life year round. Even after the season ends I am looking at the recruiting websites to see if anything has transpired. My current new interest is the women's basketball team. However, my heart belongs to UTEP men's basketball, always will, and despite their current struggles, I will continue to support them by attending their home games and watching their away games.

BG is damaged goods and his past will hurt recruiting. Reggie Theus is a coach who can fix Floyd's mess in 1 or 2 years. The guy can recruit and coach.
