I thought Andre Patterson had the defense gradually improving and we cut him loose. Then I thought Scott Stoker had the defense gradually improving but we cut him loose. Since then there have been no signs of improvement in the defense.
Kugler-style offense can work if the defense is good. The offense can gradually wear down the opponent if the defense is able to get off the field. But with a bad defense, Kugler's offense is just the worst possible combination. The offense goes three-and-out and then the defense gives up a quick score; rinse and repeat.
I fault Kugler more for his terrible defense than his terrible offense. He's the one who put all his chips on Tom Mason. It baffles the mind.
