...with ~1300 students, will play three home basketball games this season in Pineville.

Why UTEP is playing a Div lll school I don't know. UTEP will count the game but the ncaa will not give UTEP credit come ncaa selection time. Louisiana College is a private school and plays a number of their home games in neighboring Alexandria. Their schedule includes 4 Div l opponents including UTEP and they list them as exhibitions. They beat Div l McNeese St the last 2 yrs.

Why is this a thread? UTEP, back in the Haskins days, played a lot of little schools to get ready for conference time. Yes, I want some substance, but stop nit picking....good lord

Do any of you insiders know the details on Omega's back issue? He has been MIA in all of the exhibition games and all I've heard is that his back is tightening up. Is there a plan? We certainly need his contributions.

Coach Haskins loved playing Cardinal Stritch, Lubbock Christian and Southern Utah. You're never going to see a pre-conference schedule of Syracuse, Duke and UCLA. Let's be real

It’s a thread because it’s our next opponent.

People used to criticize us playing soft opponents back in the Haskins era, too.

No MEAC, SWAC, or OVC schools were available tomorrow? Only a D3 school? Not even a D2 school? This team was here last year too. This is pathetic and only a moron would pay to see this crap.

Floyd and Stull should see an empty arena tomorrow.

I wouldn't be going if I didn't have season tickets and there isn't another home game for 18 days, so I might as well go.

It does cost a ton, especially for what Floyd has given us, but I enjoy the games regardless of the opponent. Sure, I would love to see solid opponents every game, but no school only schedules name teams. Hell, if we go to play a big school, most times I would bet their fan base would complain about playing us.
It's great being able to have your own seats for the entire season. You tend to build friendships with the folks around you, and you never have to worry about getting a good seat if/when we play a good team.
The donation is a good thing to give as well...

Well said..I got season tickets when Floyd was hired because I thought they would be hard to come by and I wanted to be at all the games. I wanted the continuity and comfort of the same seats and parking. The 1st game against Pacific was sold out. Four years later (and no more sellouts) I gave up my season tickets out of sheer fact that I couldn't get 5 seats together on a decent level. I complained for 4 years as attendance seemed to dwindle. When I cancelled my season tickets I got an email from Park to meet him but I declined out of frustration. There are season ticket holders that want to sit closer but they give those seats to companies that never fill the seats. I asked at the ticket sales dept if they want the money and the fans or just the money? I got a blank stare. Now I buy $8 tickets and pretty much sit in better seats and UTEP doesnt get the extra 2-3k in donation that I was willing to give every year.

Salesmanship is dead.

I hate the fact that companies buy such good seats and never use them. I know my previous employer had sever pairs in different areas and would give them to either employees or advertisers. Tax writeoff....buy no one sits in those seats.
Maybe they should be required to have the seats used a certain percentage of the games or they give them up? Move them higher in the Don? Companies that own the great lower seats are the reason we look so damn empty each game.

I’d be nice if they just built a new, smaller, more intimate arena.

That, and...uh........some sub par results for the last half decade plus.

Yeah, well...."if" we really were getting 6,000 people in there each game and "if" they were paying for and using the lower seats, we wouldn't look so empty.

No just win and fill it lol That was an Awful suggestion. That's basically saying we always plan on sucking and not being good again, haha

The trend for on-campus basketball arenas is towards smaller, 8k or so seaters that are loud with not a bad seat in the house.

Most stadiums and arenas are smaller than their predecessors now. Have to create demand and offer better seating and amenities to get you out of your house. UTEP does not understand this and that is why attendance continues to dwindle and they wallow in mediocrity.

I asked a booster tonight re: Jones, and apparently there’s no dirty secret — the guy just bailed.

It’s a shame, because with him this team would have had nice depth.
