Not talking about the Sun Bowl game. But the actuall stadium does it have sponsor. If not what if Utep got a sponser to help pay for new head coach. Same thing with Haskins center. Do coaches get a % of Nike deal that Utep gets? Who gets that money?

I don't think so, but that's a pretty good idea.

I don't know much about that, but is that the same as naming rights or just a straight sponsorship?

I agree excellent idea. UNM recently landed a 10 year 10 million dollar naming rights contract with a local remodeling company.

We need a local business to step up and do the same for the Sun Bowl and Don Haskins. A good AD could mine the community and find one.

How about the MountainStar bowl and basketball center?

Underarmour is the up and coming sports company and they have nice apparel IMO. UTEP should get an agreement with them as a sponsor too.

That would make sense for the next AD to look into. For the Don Haskins Center you can have the sponsor’s name as the building and rename the court “Don Haskins Court”. Gallagher-Iba arena dedicated their basketball court to Eddie Sutton.

Change the name of the Don to a sponsor? With Mary still around? and the kids here? Might as well resign immediately.
Sell Huge sponsorship on the outside walls of the building, sure. Name the court, ok. Change the name of the Don? I think that would go over like a lead balloon.

No don't change the name (Sun bowl and Haskins center), just add a sponser in the front.

It has been discussed and brought up but no takers. If I am correct, I think it is all tied in with the corporate press box seating but I'm not to sure.

You know who would be a good sponsor. Tony Lama Boots. And thry could have like a big boot statue in front of Sun Bowl.
Then during games and when Sun Bowl is in town they could sell Tony Lamm products in the sun bowl.

It is time to renovate the oldest UTEP athletic facility, Kidd Field and rename it GECU Field. It should be used not just for two/ three (conference meet) meets a year, but at the very least good enough to bring the NCAA West Outdoor Regional to the 915. If you read the UTEP Athletics 2013- 2018 Strategic Plan, it does state that it needs new bleachers and new sound system.

I could not find how much Southwest University paid for the naming rights to The Chihuahuas statdium but KVIA did say that the naming rights for two other minor league stadiums were $16 million for 15 years and 15 million for 25 years. Question would be what local (or national) business would be willing to pay that much money for stadium naming rights?

Tony Lama is a great idea. El Paso makes some of the best cowboy boots in the world. But I think you may need a publicly traded company with a reputable brand.

Chicos Tacos is so cheap/efficient that they still do not accept debit cards or credit cards, simply because they don't want to pay the card processing fee's. They are cash only. I highly doubt that a company who wont pay a card processing fee or even replace some damaged tables in some of their older locations, would be interested in throwing around a few million dollars for a questionable ROI marketing sponsorship.

Also, the truth is that they don't need to spend money on marketing.

They did spend more on changing to real cheese, but I think them being a sponsor was just a joke...right?
