Stagnation of UTEP athletics won't end until there's a shakeup in the person who keeps making the wrong hire.
Miners last “good” team was the 2014-15 team that made the NIT. They weren’t even sniffing the NCAA Tournament that year either. The fans are the best thing about this program. It’s been 15 years since we’ve been to the NCAA tournament. Are expectations considered grandiose to expect at least one trip back to the dance since then?
I think is holding is still here both bynum and Terrell leave if he is gone a chance one or both might stayAnd probably DT.
He keeps putting Bynum in the doghouse. Terrell has been getting consistent minutes all season.I think is holding is still here both bynum and Terrell leave if he is gone a chance one or both might stay
I’m sorry, but most of us don’t have grandiose expectations. Bronzeing is a highly paid coach, he’s almost making double than his conference mate at FIU. Is it “grandiose” for us to expect 1 conference title contending team during his 4 years? Only 1 out of the 4, not every year. I don’t think that’s grandiose.
StupitidyI don’t think anyone can come in here and build a Championship Program that competes for a title year after year. That’s what I mean by grandiose expectations. We aren’t that place anymore and I think a lot of people still think we are.
When UTEP hires its next coach, it needs to be a guy that can win Today and maybe a gimmick hire. Someone that doesn’t want to be here so bad that he wins right away

So stay the course with a coach that obviously doesn't have what it takes? Because we have sucked for the last 15 years, we should keep sucking?I am not defending Joe Golding BUT, Tony Barbee left 15 years ago and this season is what UTEP has become. We as fans have this grandiose expectation of this program because of what happened in 66 and throughout the 80’s, but the reality is it’s lost of its luster.
I am hoping the move to MWC jump starts the stagnation of UTEP athletics
Especially being in a bad conference. It’s been 15 years since we’ve been to the NCAA tournament. Are expectations considered grandiose to expect at least one trip back to the dance since then?
Are you sure about that? I don't remember Terry being on the hot seat at Fresno. He had some good teams (good players) there.Rodney Terry was on his way out at Fresno and we threw him a lifeline.
Was it less money? UTEP pays well for the basketball coach. The football team is where ITEP skimps out.The point is not to argue about Rodney Terry although without looking it up it’s hard to believe he left a good Mountain West team with good players for less money to play in a conference that was changing every year and had teams 2 time zones away.
I’m sure Golding is reading the threads and saying the same thing.
We need to turn back into a serious basketball program again

The problem isn't that Golding has huge potential but doesn’t have a Doc Sadler type for an assistant. The problem is Joe Golding. We need to turn back into a serious basketball program again and having an athletic director that comes to basketball games looking like a circus clown and a president that shows up but looks like she doesn’t know the difference between basketball and pickle ball is a huge problem. I’m sure Golding is reading the threads and saying the same thing.
A good AD would have seen the huge potential in Joe Golding and put up the money for an experienced assistant someone like Doc Sadler an X’s and O’s genius to mentor and develop his talent.
We need to wipe the slate clean a move forward we can be a consistent MW top tier program but we really have to step it up and we can.
It is true. Terry even mentioned that fans didn't appreciate what he built over there once or twice. Are you sure about that? I don't remember Terry being on the hot seat at Fresno. He had some good teams (good players) there.
I know we don’t have flashy names in the conference but why do you say it’s a bad conference? I have seen conference comparisons where conference USA is rated as high as 8 and as low as 13 but there are 33 or so conference so that’s definitely not a bad conference… an average one maybe but not a bad oneEspecially being in a bad conference.
CUSA has been a one bid league for over a decade (even when Memphis was a member) and would be a zero bid league many years if not for the auto bid.I know we don’t have flashy names in the conference but why do you say it’s a bad conference? Kimani YoungThe Miners are now 7-6 in league play. By any definition that is a mediocre record, and we play in a mediocre league. We are nothing more than a mediocre team.
The worst part is that this is Golding's peak here at UTEP. Among his main rotation are five seniors, seniors that he's been able to keep here for multiple seasons, including our best player, Frazier (even if he didn't play like it tonight). If Golding stays he will have to rebuild the team, and he has proven incapable of bringing in the required number of contributors in a single recruiting year. It won't get any better than this while he's the coach, and this just isn't good enough. He obviously gets to coach until the last game of this season, but after that I hope that this misery ends and he's sent walking.
As for the next coach, since Haskins left we're 3 for 4 when hiring a hot shot assistant, and 0 for 3 when hiring a proven coach. Maybe we should go back to the previous formula.
Sandler would have had us further in the hole…are you crazy!?!We need to turn back into a serious basketball program again and having an athletic director that comes to basketball games looking like a circus clown and a president that shows up but looks like she doesn’t know the difference between basketball and pickle ball is a huge problem. Sadler was a terrible recruiter, but a great X and O's guy. He won with the previous recruits, but could not recruit himself. So, what he is saying is plausible that Sadler is a great assistant, just not a good head coach.Sandler would have had us further in the hole…are you crazy!?!
