Sorry Unihorn, I basically stole your thread title.

I have hope that as soon as Stull announces that funds have been raised to renovate and improve the Sun Bowl, he will also announce his retirement. Thinking ahead to that happy day, who would you suggest/like as the next UTEP AD to take the athletic dept to new heights?

I'll throw out a couple of names to get it started.

1. Lisa Campos, UTEP grad and former UTEP senior Assistant AD at UTEP has been the Athletic Director (also holds title of VP for athletics) at NAU. Yes the NAU that downed the MBB team the other night.

2. Chris Park, senior Associate AD at UTEP for past 4 years.

Both are young, energetic people, something badly needed in the UTEP Athletic Dept.

For morale purposes, you ALWAYS want to look internally, even if it's just a courtesy. That said, the task for Stull's successor will be monumental. He/she will likely start with having to fire both head coaches from your revenue-generating sports, then replacing them with quality coaches willing to accept high risk gigs. Even more challenging, the new AD will be faced with the task of completely rebuilding the athletic department and the university community, from students, to donors, to alumni, to fans. Most challenging will be absolute requirement to build a culture of winning and excellence at UTEP athletics. My sense is that each of these factors is at an ebb unseen at UTEP for many years.

I got no names for you, but this will be an extraordinarily difficult and important hire for the university. Whatever he/she is paid won't be far enough...

Easier to do nothing...

Also keep in mind the the AD reports directly to the president of the university. Dr. Natalicio, currently in her 80s and likely to retire in near future, will presumably make the AD hiring decision. So, given the magnitude of the challenge facing the next AD plus the uncertain status of your future boss, what do you see as he impact on the pool of available and qualified candidates? Would you take such a job under those conditions? Me either...

I like Dr Natalicio but man if she's in her 80's she should have taken the 60k bonus and rode off in the sunset!

What I would love to see is a new AD put in place and keep the two head coaches in place and see if with a new AD and accountability if Floyd more then Kugler would succeed. Complacency has Floyd in this position, a good AD maybe able to light a fire under his a$$. But then again his arrogance could lead him to retire.

GO MINERS!
