Does he have Texas ties though? Remember that is really important!!!!
Whats more important wins or recruiting ties in texas?
This is completely inaccurate! Utep does not compete with the Top Texas teams on recruits and we are now getting passed by UTSA and N Texas and I hope that changes, but it's a fact right now. So I'd rather get 3 star recruits from somewhere in America than 1 and 2 recruits in our own state.Strong recruiting ties in Texas = more wins.
However, we need not be handcuffed to the idea that only a hc with strong Texas recruiting ties will suffice. It would certainly make finding coordinators with Texas recruiting ties all that much more important, though.

What’s the love affair with Texas ties, a great recruiter will get the players needed. Dosnt matter if you say ya’ll or you all. Get the best damn coach possible.
Ok your opening statement then I feel is incorrect. El Paso is a Southwest Mountain and Weather Coast City more than a Texas school location. I love Texas, but we don't have to necessarily have a roster full of 2nd hand Texas high school recruits that no one wanted. My point is still valid that we can get recruits in Cali, AZ, NM, CO and JC and recruits in Delaware for God Sake if they're better than some that we can get in the Lone Star State. So I'll see your BS and raise you a Horse Shit!Good luck with that. UTEP's success is going to be with Texas' under the radar guys, for the most part, coupled with some out of staters. Should be able to fill a roster with Texas 2* kids. It's been said that most 2* Texas kids are as good as or better than most states' 3* kids. Based on my own experience, I believe that.
Also, nowhere did I say we compete with top Texas teams for recruits. I call bullshit on your assertion that my statement is "completely inaccurate". What rock are you living under?

GS is no longer looking for a coach. They settled for their interim guy. They have only been an FBS program for 4 years and have already won more bowl games that UTEP has in the past 50 years.
Lol, no but I'll check it out I like what he's preaching, but we'll see if it lasts. I do hope so. Also I'm hearing he will reach our to Houston after the season. Personally I'd love Keener, Houston or Off Coordinator at Ok StThat was pretty funny.
Again, based on your response, I think you're taking my statement as all or nothing. Of course we should get the best recruits we can. I think the greater majority will come from Texas. I stick to my original statement that strong Texas recruiting ties = more wins. But now I'm beating a dead horse again. I call.
By the way, did you happen to see post #14 on the 'Baliff fired' thread? Senter knows wuzzup!
You're right it is. And since you know so much about Houston, what kind of offense and defense does he run? How well does he recruit? What's his longest tenure at the collegiate level? How much has he won at the Div 1 level?Does he have Texas ties though? Remember that is really important!!!!

Hope y'all don't mind me posting, but I would suggest UTEP hiring this guy. Awesome coach. Program builder. Big time recruiter. Head coaching experience.

Read a little deeper into Thomsen's background. While it's his first season at TCU under Patterson (awesome coach to learn from) he's been an OL coach at Central Arkansas, Texas Tech and Arizona State. Been an OL coach his whole career and a record setting offense coordinator and head coach at ACU. Recruited 4 players who went on to play in the NFL while at ACU, Daniell Manning, Benard Scott (who won the d2 heisman), Clyde Gates, Johnny Knox."Position:
Offensive Line Coach | 1st Season"
No.
One, you're spot on. Two, you answered my question. He has not moved up. Hell, at least Kugler made it to the NFL. While he has sparkling recruits on his resume and is at a TCU, his moves are lateral. Yes, we are just UTEP (no need to remind us), however, Kugler stepped down because he just basically lacked the overall skills to run a winning FBS program. Thomsen' background does not appear to show that. But recruiting, that's a different story.Read a little deeper into Thomsen's background. Well said, and I think it is reasonable to extend this approach to the basketball opening as well.Robert Rodriguez and Brian Young were great players and I respect everything they brought to the program. I would ONLY want them brought in IF their resume warranted them landing the job over every other qualified candidate.
Here is a Mike Houston pregame speech I found. I think this dude can do some great things at UTEP.
