I don't understand it.

ODU fans talking shit cuz some UTEP fans threw bottles in the court. Did anyone see them throwing thrash on the court?

To heck with ODU fans. Let them go drive their Volvos off a cliff. Second, Miner fans are passionate and vocal but are extremely conscious of throwing items on the court. Please put a video or gif screen shot proving that accusation. If it did happen, shame on that person.

I just looked at the replay and I hate to say it, but the refs got it right. The clock didn't start for at least a half a second. I also thought it was awful that fans threw items on the court and I hate that they mentioned that on ESPN.

There were multiple people that threw water bottles at the ODU bench and they all came from the student section. ODU players and coaches had to be escorted after the game by police (which never happens).

I saw it happening, but thought it was the aluminum beer bottles. There were actually quite a few thrown towards the ODU bench plus I saw a popcorn bag thrown and the popcorn flew to the court. The thing I don't know is if the ODU players were taunting the fans which caused this or if it was due to the final call by the officials. Either way, fans should show more class. This gives us (the fans) a bad image.

I think you were right and I think it looked more like beer bottles. I didn't see any players taunting the fans and there would be no reason for the players to taunt the fans because everybody was on pins and needles waiting for the call. As soon as the shot was waved off the students threw items into the stands. It sucks that it was also mentioned on ESPN because it gives UTEP a bad image on a national stage.

Screw the "respectful" image. If crap like that gets called, I'm perfectly fine with a ref getting a few plastic bottles to the dome. I'll take a passionate fan base over a sedentary one any day of the week

I like passion too. I was ****ing livid in the bar I was watching the game in. **** those refs. However, watching on tv it appeared to me some a-holes threw shit at the ODU bench, who were not taunting fans but rather were watching the replay intently and waiting on the refs call. I'm not ok with that. Really makes us look bad and could in the future play into whether or not we land the conference tourney again.

Johnson said something to the effect that the head ref has it in for UTEP. Shit like this doesn't help our case. I'd say CTF hasn't helped our case much either but he had every right to go off last night when Willms got knocked the **** down and we got no call just before half time. The officiating was piss poor last night.

My season tkts are across the opposing bench in section U. As soon as they announced ODU won a couple 3-4 players turned and started taunting the fans. No flips off or anything that bad just looking at them and taunting that they won. First thing thrown was an aluminum beer bottle then I saw a couple cups that had liquid and a thing of popcorn.

The players weren't going by the refs' stopwatch after-the-fact; they were going by the clock on the floor. What they do on the floor depends on the clock on the floor. I'm not comfortable with the precedent of the refs arbitrarily deciding to ignore the clock and instead judging the play based on their stopwatch. Maybe if the clock were controlled by homers who intentionally didn't start it soon enough, but it sounds like the clock is controlled by the refs; it's their own screw-up and they're punishing UTEP for it.

What did they do to taunt the fans? You sure they weren't just celebrating?

I don't disagree with that, but I guess when a play is being reviewed they have to see if the clock started when the ball was touched and the clock clearly wasn't started at that time.

Maybe I am wrong, but I am cool with fans throwing sh*t on the court. In the end it's just some liquids and popcorn, it's not like people were tossing chairs and batteries. But we have all said we hate CUSA because we have no rivals and maybe this game is the beginning of a rivalry between both our schools.

Filled water bottles are heavy! I don't know if the bottles thrown were full or empty, but I sure wouldn't want to be pelted with a filled water bottle from twenty rows up! And liquids can make the floor slippery and cause injury that way. In any case, it sure doesn't reflect well on the city.

I am never OK with fans executing that behavior. Imagine if this happened towards UTEP on the road? We would all be livid at the opposing team's fans.

F*ck the refs, ODU, and their fans

That is all....

It's sad that some fans give us a bad name. At the end of the day it's just a game played by teenagers and young men. It's sad that some people use derogatory names towards opposing players and fans who did nothing wrong.

Gee golly. How insensitive of me not to think of those poor players and fans before I posted. I'm gonna go sit in a corner for a while and think about what I did...

Sounds like you "figured" something right for once in your whiney little existence...

Stay classy! You're the type of fan who never attended the University they cheer for and gives the people who actually graduated from that school a bad name. It's sad that there are people like you in existence who promotes violence and derogatory language.

The fans started throwing bottles when one of the old dominion players started taunting the fans when they waved off the bucket. He faced the crowd and started taunting, I was there and immediately saw it.

I sat by the tunnel and as the odu players were running out some of them were using the old "be quiet" finger to the mouth gesture. Is that vulgar or offensive, no, but considering the magnitude of the bad calls at the end and the emotional roller coaster the arena went through...it was meant to further incite the fans. With the exception of a few students, which were probably inebriated, I think the crowd showed great restraint considering what just transpired.

Well said !

About 99% of people who were there last night or watched the game on tv woke up this morning thinking about the great game played last night. I'm sure less than 1% are still self righteously harping on a few bottles thrown in the court. It was wrong, it would have happened anywhere in such a charged atmosphere. But of course, the only one still preaching about is bubble boy. How about acknowledging the fact the 8,660 people didn't throw a thing on the floir, and our coach handled the situation calmly knowing full well going off could've incited an uglier scene.

So who pulled the Bartman on the clock? Was it a designated CUSA official?

I don't care if it was one person, ten people, or fifty people. Throwing objects onto the court should NEVER happen. You can defend those people all you want. Considering the type of person you are I am not surprised you are on their side. You can say all the childish immature comments that you want, but I am going to side with the others on here who have class and respect.
