Yes, I would love to go 31-0 just like everyone, but let's see the forest from the trees
1) What is UTEP's mantra, 10:33, right? That means all these games in November to March don't really matter and the team is not focused on that. Let's all wait until the CUSA Tournament, we fall behind by 11 in the 2nd half, and then turn it on and win 3 games in a row and make the NCAA Tournament with a 16-14 record and a 15 seed. Isn't that what matters? So just take it down.
2) Golding is smart. How many fans will make the trip to Huntsville? Maybe 70? And there will be maybe 3,500 in the arena? So why not get the team acclimated to playing in empty Don Haskins by getting blown out and training them to play where crowd noise doesn't matter? There will be no home court in Huntsville, so don't let them get acclimated to playing in a rowdy Don.
3) Golding always says teams have to go through adversity. Why start strong and win games, lets have them learn lessons. No better way to say you have a looooong way to go than being #207 according to KenPom. Genius!
4) Let's face it, it is striking how much more NIL money Utah Valley and for that matter Southern Utah and MTSU have than UTEP, NIL is a direct correlation to on the field success, so that means Utah Valley must have nearly 50% more funds than UTEP, indicative of the score. We are so far behind, so really, this falls on us as fans, have you donated because until you do, there is nothing, let me be clear, nothing for UTEP to do. Keep expecting huge blowouts until you send in $9.15. Yes typically, the team has to win over the fans and show something for the money we all pay in season tickets, merch, etc - but that's not the case for UTEP. Senter & Golding can go to bed resting easily knowing this is 100% on fans and donors.
