I was remembering the UTEP win over Middle Tennessee in 2017 when Artis, Harris and co. stunned the Blue Raiders and held Reggie Upshaw scoreless. Seems like so long ago. Literally no one is left at UTEP from that team. Middle Tennessee has some left over from their team that year that won the conference regular season and tournament before losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. They're only 4-15 this season and Kermit Davis moved on to Ole Miss. On paper this should be a UTEP win before playing a UAB team that got stomped by LA Tech and lost to Southern Miss.

My opinion: anything less than 2 wins this week will be a disappointment. Team badly needs both games.

Yeah we know. As pick ups has said before this is your agenda. Turn anything slightly positive into a negative.

IMO it was a good moment. That was the second time we snapped a winning streak for MTSU. First we busted their 25 or whatever it was home winning streak. That game prevented MTSU from being the first and only team to ever go 18-0 in conference.

Yes we know they went on to win a game in the tournament. And that’s much better than going undefeated in conference play.

It’s still nice to have been the team to give them their lone conference loss of the year.

Didn't understand the reply at first then realized it must have been to a troll I long ago put on ignore.

I never thought of it as some iconic victory, but was happy to see the team step up against a good team. Upshaw didn't go to the NBA but still plays professionally in Italy. Potts also plays in Italy. JaCorey Williams plays in Greece.

Can't knock their success that year. 31-5 with a tournament win is an accomplishment.

I’m just different. I prefer actual accomplishments and not moral victories or victories that don’t matter. Nobody cares about MTSU or any other team in CUSA.

It’s funny that he has me on ignore. He’s just a brainless cheerleader and a pussy. He once said that he wished every other CUSA team lost all their non-conference opponents. He’s just barely above Fili on the intelligence scale.

Yup me too. When you read a response that sometimes makes no sense you have to consider it's to a troll that's on "ignore". Need to review the post# & see the missing number.

If I wait to get excited until we have victories that matter, I’ll probably die a bitter man.

If it's just a game and results don't bother you why do you spend so much time on here pilling on UTEP and other posters? I'm not being contentious, I genuinely want to know

UTEP basketball and football is a hobby. I am interested in their games. I enjoy opinionated discussions when there are solid points made. I will shit on “cheerleady” opinions that are unrealistic. UTEP isn’t Alabama or USC, expectations and fandom should fall in line with past/current results.

BTW, it’s only “piling on” because the teams are bad and never win anything important. My posts would be a lot different if we won championships, Bowl games, and made the NCAAs every few years in this awful, awful league.

You shit on anything that’s slightly positive. This thread is proof of it.

Cube Jack was simply saying MTSU still has pieces from that good ncaa team we beat. That we don’t have any players from that year.

Somehow you’re great input is to tell us we lost when it mattered and we finished under .500.

You’re the opposite of a cheerleader. Anything we can hang our hat on you come and shovel shit on it.

Part of being a fan is being "cheerleady." Fans cheer on their teams, why is this a problem? I don't think anyone on here thinks we are Alabama or USC. Sometimes people have bad takes but so do you and so do I, we've all been wrong before. And yes, it seems like you are constantly piling on because it seems like you point out every point that you disagree with. We all have disagreed with someone on here before but most of us don't point out every disagreement.

Cheering on your team(s) and hoping they win is one thing. Predicting wins over better teams, coaches leaving for other jobs, and saying this coach has turned the program around after a short time frame is what I have issues with.

You and others I presume, see it as negative. That’s fine, I don’t give a ****. So you will be another poster I will ask this, please tell me what there is to be positive about UTEP Athletics. And by that I mean, football and basketball. Those are the only sports that matter.

I look forward to your list and how it compares to similar schools.

I don't see it as negative, I see it as constantly calling out every take that you disagree with when its not necessary.

There aren't many positives right now around UTEP and I don't think anyone is disputing that but I'll point some out some of the few...
Williams' consistency is a positive.
Boum's play seems to be improving.
UTEP women's basketball seems to finally be on the upswing.

I don't think this season is about wins and losses anymore. What I really want to see is our coach's ability to prepare and adjust as well as some progression and consistency on the offensive end of the court. If we can get some of that then it really doesn't matter because the wins will come.

The sad thing is that UTEP BB can't seem to get the right combination of coaching, recruiting and in-game play. It's always just peices that never come to fruition.

CRT's recruiting shine has faded and it's pretty obvious that he is not a good X's and O's guy.

I meant only men’s basketball. The women’s team doesn’t make money and is only slightly successful when they make the post season. I don’t care about the women’s team.

So your positives are 2 players “getting better”? So the other 350+ D1 schools don’t have that??? You see, it’s not really a positive. That’s an every season occurrence by every school. I’ll give you credit, because you actually responded.

You said basket and didn't specify the men's team. Getting better is better than getting worse and some of out players have gotten worse this year

What a shitty take. If you only care about sports that make money then you don’t care about any sports. Find me a few, no that’s too hard, find me one G5 school that didn’t record a loss in both football and basketball.

Houston who could be considered the most successful G5 school in the state runs their football program at around a 6 million dollar loss per year. Their basketball program losses another 4 million per year.

Yeah no one in the G5 is making a profit from football, basketball, or any other sport.

Okay, I misspoke. The football team and men’s basketball team are the only ones at most schools that make “significant revenue”. I didn’t say that I only cared about sports that make money. I was trying to say that I don’t give 2 shits about the rifle team, volleyball, or track programs. All I wanted was the positives about UTEP football and men’s basketball. The answer I got was 2 players improving. Wow, that’s impressive!!!!

This is the lineup I've been wanting to see. I like Boum as the 6th man and the rest of the guys off the bench. Hoping to see more of Tarke today too.

Verhoeven
Williams
Stroud
Edwards
Hawkins

I like this lineup as well. Athletic and probably our best defensive lineup. Hopefully Stroud can come in and provide some offensive spark. Watching Archie on offense has been brutal up to now. We need more offensive production from the wing. The thing to keep an eye with Stroud are his minutes played. Terry has changed his starting lineups, but then falls back to his old "reliable" ones. Also want to see more of Tarke.

I was high on Tarke the first time I saw his explosiveness. However, the additional playing time has shown that he can't shoot. He's an offensive liability.

Neither Tarke nor Archie seem comfortable in the offensive scheme. They both stand around until someone waves them off and neither can shoot. They both seem to be decent defenders but damn I wish they could shoot.

That’s you. It’s just a game to me. If the Miners win or lose, the rest of my day and week go on as normal.

Your day and weeks seem to heavily revolve around posting on this site. That's especially true for someone who isn't too invested emotionally in the outcome of our games.

I'm guessing you're a disgruntled virgin. There's not a person on the planet who's getting laid and also wasting this much personal time on an internet message board, especially when they don't care about the subject of said board...

Agreed. Both guys have good size. They can defend, rebound and finish, but neither is a starter based on our offensive needs right now. I would much rather have a center that can defend and be an offensive liability, rather than a SF. Stroud is the most true SF on this team and brings the most offensively. He also blocks shots at a high rate and brings that excitement that teammates and fans want.
