We need a basketball insider. It seems like recruiting is dead in the basketball side. Never hear about players visiting or coming for junior day. I wish the basketball coaches were active on social media like the football coaches.

I think people get caught up in things. Not exactly knowing what you were saying by your statement but from a personal view, when it comes to politics, I think the best thing is for me to try and not comment. I get too personal, as I know I have with you, and I apologize, and all it brings is anger and resentment.

Everyone has their views, they just need to be cordial and the banter is ok, as long as it does not get hurtful. I don't think anyone on here doesn't want the Miners to truly succeed and they just voice their frustration.

Others like to complain, but maybe it is their outlet. Maybe it is where they can release it. I am sure some this message board is more important in their lives than others, and that is a great thing as they have something they can use for that.

You are right, the personal stuff, and I know politics is the worst thing to bring it out because not everyone seems to be able to allow people to have their view and calmly talk to them without getting worked up.

And that's the problem right there. I come here to shoot the bull and have fun. I'm the same way here than in person with my buddies. In person, we all don't agree on everything, but we call each other on our BS and debate other things when we disagree. There's no drama or name calling.

There are a number of uptight people on here who just can't have a normal conversation. They get offended by everything and then throw a hissy fit when they are called out on their BS or when they are wrong. Or even worse, they have to announce when they ignore or block your posts.

Y’all are paying for a legit football recruiting service in where the coaches ask him to pass this info on to create digital hype so the kid can commit. Nothing wrong with it, but that is what college athletics coverage has turned into since about 2015ish.

You have the all around beat from local news and then the recruiting beat which is always subscription based so you’re getting first hand info almost written by the coaching staff (have done this in my professional past), but it is impressive with his recruiting connects but that’s all he’s selling which is fine, be happy IMO lol

I'm glad that Parker Thune has injected some life into the site with his reporting, but his focus is clearly focused on football (likely at the behest of the coaching staff, as Mr. Bigwood explained).

But given UTEP's hoops tradition, and the relatively successful season we're having, it would be nice to see some more basketball-related content, too. Maybe Golding or somebody from UTEP's athletic department can reach out to Mr. Thune to make it a priority; it would probably be a win-win for all parties and this site.

Here is where the stars drop. A college may offer 250 football scholarships. But not every offer is a committable offer.

UTEP will tell a kid, ‘we are going to extend an offer, your on our list of guys that if the numbers work out, we may offer you a scholarship.’

There are athletes that UTEP will bring in and say, ‘We would like to offer you a scholarship right now. This is a committable offer.’

A recruiting site may see a guy that has 20 offers and give that guy 4 stars. But when it comes to signing day, he really has only 2 that have sent him scholarship papers. And upon that revaluation, he will lose ranking points.

Kickball is a HS coach, he has more knowledge of how recruiting works than you do. Some here have tried to make the point that recruit ratings are not completely accurate barometers of players' potential. They're not. I don't believe these ratings are meaningless, but they aren't the be all end all either.

Im a former Hall of fame poster. I also have knowledge of how recruiting works. Utep had 8 players that were 3 stars before they signed with Utep. Now just because they went to Utep they dropped to 2 stars. Don't coaches get raises or bonuses for having top recruiting classes?? I just want rivals to be fair. There is nobody on here that watches the ratings like I do . Kickball doesn't have the time he coaches high school .
