Miners @ NMSU Prediction & Attendance Thread

NMSU had 5k for a Tuesday nighter against UC-Irvine. A very solid Big West program that won an NCAA match a couple of years back and has been to the tournament a few times in recent years. They covered the 5.5 spread and won by 11, but the game was close to the end.

Tough to gauge UTEP against pretty soft competition at home. But all indications are they should be improved this season.

New Mexico is seeing a decent spike in covid cases right now, so a lot of the older crowd might be staying out, but I could see 8-9k making it for this one.

Until UTEP proves otherwise, NMSU has had their number for the last decade only beating NMSU 4 times in the last 10 years. They're also loaded this season and a heavy favorite to win the WAC.

UTEP 62

Why do we care to predict attendance in Las Cruces? According to the email I got from UTEP yesterday, we’re playing UNM in Las Cruces on Saturday.

I don’t think we have the offense to keep up with NMSU unless Boum goes nuclear.
NMSU 78
UTEP 62
8000, 1500 of which are Miners

Don't think we're quite ready for prime yet. Players learning new coach and system.

Aggies are experienced and pretty high level opponents.
Maybe the EP rematch will be better.

If you are heading to the 575:

UTEP 67
NMSU 80
Attendance at the Pan American Center:
6785 Aggie/ Miner fans.

That's cool. Imo it would have been better to get a shirt sponsor to be able to give away a free shirt for each section. Similar to what UTEP did for the WKU game a few years back. Cool idea but I don't think it will work if you expect El Pasoans to show up with a specific colored shirt. Most don't even wear orange to the games 😒

Just hand out White Shirts to everyone that shows and then sit in every other section.

If the goal is to have a striped out Don, then that makes perfect sense. If the goal is to sell those white and orange TWC shirts then not so much.

Oh I’m aware of the white out a few years back and ppl wore blue.

Ppl won’t wear it over what they have anyway. Why waste $$ on a shirt (even if it’s plain) if it won’t be used. At least the cost isn’t coming out of the university. Anyway, there’s more than enough notice for this to “work”

That's not entirely true. Last night I saw a bunch of people wearing those white "first generation Miner" shirts they gave away on the 3 pointers over their other shirts.

Have you been to a game lately? Every game I've watched in history has most people wearing orange.

Yeah I was just there last night and Saturday.

That's why I was able to say I saw alot of people wearing those free white shirts they gave away over their Grey and black undershirts..

Strange. Looks pretty orange even on the mountain while getting a hand job and in the parking lot while getting some full-on sexy time. Guess it's just my eyes deceiving me.

You could go by tv shots or by what my eyes saw. I would say 70% wear blue or orange but it's not everyone. There's enough non orange to make a difference.

It could work if they put the t shirts on the seats themselves instead of making fans coordinate. I think it’s a great idea, but it’s a little ambitious for a crowd that has shown color coordination is not a strong suit. Short of providing the shirt on the seat, I think this is something to look in to after a few complete orange out games once the crowd better understands the coordination. Fans are barely getting used to going back to games

I really hope I am wrong though.

Who do you project will be the group of 8-9 players?
Tydus
Maring
Kennedy
Boum
JB

Sibley
Saucy
Hollins
White

I think Satterfield and Kalu are battling for #10 if Golding keeps the rotation deep or based on matchups. Probably Kalu in this game.

I sed it b4 and I'll say it agin....Saterfield has to be in the lineup. We need his offense. I think White will be key also. They both gave us a clue Tuesday that they are contributors. We must have outside threats to open up the inside for our bigs. I love Agnew and Kennedy's intensity, but they are not threats from the perimeter.
Just my opinion based on our history. If JB can be an outside threat that would be a complete package to defend.
.

I think Saterfield will be a regular in the rotation. Maybe not big minutes, but he hit 3 of 5 from deep. Guessing last year’s 47% from 3 wasn’t a fluke. I think the kid can shoot…and lord knows we need a few shooters.
I think he might, but if Bieniemy can really shoot better this year it won't be as much of a need. The more the merrier though!

Golding mentioned Saterfield played the undersized 4 spot in JC. If so, there will obviously be a transition at this level for Saterfield. Really, the only guy who I can remember who was able to play a similar position, and still be effective at this level, at that size was Omar Thomas. I think Saterfield is a better perimeter shooter, but it will be difficult to match OT's ability to score in the midrange and attacking the basket. Also, it remains to be seen what type of defender Saterfield will be. All that said, I don't anticipate Saterfield plays the 4 here. At this point, I think Kennedy is well ahead in terms of playing time. I thought Kennedy looked slightly better shooting against WNM; at least when compared to last year which was a mess.

I wouldn't be shocked if we eventually see more of 15 in the top lineup, depending on the match up. I think Hollins can bring some scoring and experience that is needed. Maybe rotating TV and Maring at the 5.
Everyone looked good in the opener that's its hard to leave out anyone if we only go 8 or 9 deep. I think 20 could take minutes from one of the bigs too. Most likely from 12. Tomorrow we'll learn more of our team and we'll start to see separation. Not only by performance but by who Golding trusts in the game.

Agree, and that is part of the reason we may see more of 15, especially in crunch time. He's played a ton of games in a solid conference, so there may be more trust versus a couple of inexperienced young guys. Also, we need scoring out of that spot, which we aren't likely to get from TV. I thought is was interesting that Golding's first recruit for next year is a JC 3/4 guy who looks to be more of a scorer. That's the same spot Hollins was brought in as a one year rental.
