Miss St just fired their coach

5-23
14-14
21-12
16-14
14-16
11-18

You guys would've had this guy out of a job, calling for his head like crazy, just like with floyd!!! in 10 seasons after that last one he has not won less than 20 games and has done very well....making 6 straight appearances and a few sweet 16 appearance...things like this are what make me preach patience!
Look at the San Diego St program before and compare it to UTEP's. SDSU was awful and played in a tiny gym. Constant laughing stock of the WAC. When has UTEP been like that? UTEP doesn't need to be patient with their coaches. We've hired coaches that can get us to the dance and become winners in 2-4 years. Tim Floyd is not one of those coaches.

When floyd came in to utep

Utep has not won a game in the ncaa tournament since 1992
Don Haskins center could use a lot of upgrading
Utep plays in a terrible conference
Very hard to recruit to El Paso...because it's in the middle of nowhere in a terrible conference...

Not sure any of that screams we have to hire coaches who get to the ncaa in 2-4 years lol

Carlos it's ok to be an Aggie fan, people have come out of the closet with worse....don't worry we won't judge you too much...

That makes no sense, but whatever.

How are you supposed to win an NCAA game if you don't go?

Its only a terrible conference because you say so. If I say so "I don't know what I'm talking about"

The DHC could use some upgrades, but a lot of schools have worse arenas and crowd support, but still win. See LaTech, Georgia St, UAB, NMSU, Davidson, St Marys, Stephen F Austin as prime examples.

Tiny Murray KY can get good players but El Paso with an ex NBA coach can't? Okay then.

how does that not make any sense???

you told me all the problems san diego state had when fisher came in, and i am telling you the problems utep had
when floyd came in.....

i am not looking at the other schools....

my whole point is that everyone here including you would have fired fisher because they overreact.... and look at what has come to san diego state because of their patience

floyd has gone to the dance EVERYWHERE he has been so he is a proven coach that knows what he is doing... its not like we got some coach that has never been there before... he has been there and knows what it takes to get there which is why i am being patient and believing we will see utep become a team much like sdsu in the near future....

you just like to talk out of your ass and irritate people over here which is fine, because honestly i dont take anything here seriously at all, all in good fun... its ok to be an aggie...

I don't talk out of my butt or do it to irritate people.

The problems that SDSU aren't the same "problems" UTEP had.

Floyd took over an NCAA Tourney team. SDSU hadn't sniffed the NCAAs in decades prior to Fisher? How is that similar?

Any coach in that situation would have been given more time, more so ttha what Floyd will be given here.

He's been a winner everywhere, but not here. Took UNO, ISU, and USC to the tourney in shorter time.

I'm gonna talk about it anymore. You guys can be happy with him and I'll go to fewer games and not buy any merch.

Floyd did not take over an ncaa team..... Caracter was the reason barbee got to the dance....floyd did not have caracter...

No, but he did take over a team that was still heavily talented and senior-laden. I recall a 12-point lead with 7:00 left in the CUSA Tournament title game against Memphis on the DHC home floor, that was lost (some defined it as "choked away"). Should they hold on to that win, he would have had an NCAA Tournament team and CUSA would have had two teams dancing that year.

Thank you for the correction, tbleslie. Had UTEP won that game, three CUSA teams would have been dancing.

Memphis was not getting an at large bid in 2010. It would have still been a 2 bid conference. That game still makes me sick. The haskins center was in a celebratory mood the entire second half. The thing i remember about that game is that at the eight minute media timeout the game seemed in hand. During the timeout paydirt pete drug a white stuffed tiger in a noose back and fourth in front of the Memphis bench the entire timeout. After that the game unraveled very quickly. Im not in any way blaming the mascot for the loss its just one of those things you remember about a heartbreaking game. In my dreams Stone hits that jumper from the corner of the key.

That was 2011, not 2010. UTEP went Dancing (as an at-large) in 2010, losing to Butler in Barbee's last game as HC. In 2011, UAB was awarded an at-large, Memphis got the automatic (but I believe had a good enough resume for an at-large), and UTEP had to win the tournament on its home floor to get the automatic. I also thought the last shot taken was by Christian Polk.

Correct on Polk... Memphis was not getting in without winning the tournament(at least that is how I remember it)
