I assume PAC 12 is waiting on how these chips fall before petitioning 8th team. I do still think it’ll be Texas St. ultimately after the chips fall. Texas St. probably wants to see the actual dollars and cents of it first and recommitting to the Sun Belt was more of a power move to either demand a larger share or telling PAC 12 to show me the money!

The way things have gone, maybe UTEP would have a chance. Miners would be permanently in last place though.

Once the courts make their decision, we will be lucky if college have sports.
The Big 10, ACC, and SEC schools will always have sports. They are the blood for the football playoffs and ncaa tournament. The major tv networks and the ncaa don’t give a shit about schools like UTEP and those will be the schools with no sports.
Whatever happens to UTEP sports will be their own fault. Years of being passive and inept catching up.

The core sports will survive but we have already seen colleges dropping auxiliary programs.
I don’t see how the future model is going to succeed. Your right power five will reap the benefits.
It’s the athletes that are talented enough or don’t get the exposure for the P 5 programs that will be affected.

Maybe the rest will form regional conferences and have athletes that are actually students trying to get an education. I'm not so sure this would be a bad thing.
I would argue that College Sports as we knew it growing up is already dead.
We just have to adapt to its new form as professional sports.

I think spend per athlete is what really matters here. We have fewer non revenue sports so our spend per athlete is better and hopefully ultimately results in more money.
Nope. UTEP would still be behind Texas St in the pecking order. Meanwhile the MWC would have moved on to other teams.
PAC has said recently they want nine football teams. Sounds like Texas St and UTEP is perfect pair. And yes let the MW move on. We still don’t know if the new tv deal will really be that improved over CUSA.
The PAC12 teams didn’t leave New Mexico and Nevada to start playing UTEP.
The pac 12 thought they could just pick whatever school they wanted and they were wrong and now it’s either us or no conference.
They certainly overplayed their hand, but again they didn’t leave New Mexico and Nevada behind to start playing UTEP or even consider us.

Exactly. The language used by UTEP to deny the release of their MWC membership agreement was claiming a "competitive disadvantage", has Senter written all over it. In the past, the MWC shared tv revenue equally among its members. Let's see what old Jimbo negotiated this time around.
