NMSU @ UTEP BB: OPT, Attendance and Game Thread

Switched Sibley onto Pinson. None of the guards could stay in front of him. He's the key.

NMSU opened as a 1pt fav last night, woke up to UTEP being -1, I hit the u132 last night and now the total is 136, the market for this game is interesting and hard to gauge both teams. Here is Golding’s shot to get people excited about UTEP hoops in November. Such a big game for the program IMO I’m gonna waste money on CUSA TV for 24 hours.
UTEP opened -1.5 (135.5)
Now
NMSU -1.5 (135.5--->133.5)

Hoodierio retweeting during the game. 🤣🤣🤣

Someone else must be in charge of his Twitter.

Very impressive win. Everytime it looked like NMSU was going to go on that run, UTEP would score and break it or get a TO or get a rebound. This team is much better than last year atleast.

McKinney, Onyema, Givance, Frazier/Solomon... this team is athletic. Givance is fricking quick!

Last year's team would have lost this game.

Listened to Teich on the 600 call. It got sloppy after Miners went up 13, but so happy they pulled it out. Idk what the rest of the season holds, but to echo other’s sentiments - damn it feels good to beat the aggies…. Go Miners from New Braunfels, TX!
I'll be up in your neck of the woods tomorrow, driving up from San Antonio for Wurstfest.

Great win. The defense is fun to watch. I loved the way we drive and go inside. This year's team plays like a team early on. Our crowd forgot how to watch basketball. It never really got loud, especially against our hated rival. Hope these crowds continue. Overall, I couldn't be happier, go Miners!

Great defense by UTEP. I really didn’t think they would pull this one out because Heiar brought good talent along with his solid resume

However, Heiar got outcoached by Golding’s defense. The Miners made it tough in the paint and slowed it up on the other end not allowing the Aggies to play fast.

Z.O. has made such unbelievable improvement, he made his physical presence known.

Wait…what? I didn’t know there were any others? Finding a Miner fan in NB is like finding life on Mars.

Regardless of how many fans were there last night, it was definitely a good crowd for an unknown team. And unlike the football team, this team exceeded everyone’s expectations for their home opener. I for one really enjoyed that game. Now I don’t want to get ahead of myself either because they played a team that was another complete rebuild with a new coach. But something that stood out to me was only one player played almost 30 minutes, after that, I believe the highest minutes played was 24. And All off season, we were pleading for Golding to recruit a big and didn’t trust him when he said he liked what they had. After these two games with Kalu, Oneyma and even Hamilton, I think Golding has shown that they have really developed their bigs. Now imagine if all three stay next year with another year of this type of development…wow! Joe…I like what I’m seeing and can definitely get behind these guys. Go miners!

One of the fastest growing cities in the US and growing ASA metroplex, you’ll find more soon!
I keep hoping. I’ve actually run into 3-4. Literally that’s it in 25 years here, though.

I had to go to a sports bar here in town to watch the game against UT. I had a UTEP t-shirt on. There must’ve been 5-6 people ask me what or where UTEP is. SMH.

I agree with SAMiner, the bigs - in particular Oneyema - have improved and their upside is huge. Also, we finally have meat on our bones. Solomon and Otis, as forwards, aren t going to get pushed around by many players. This is reflecting in the rebounding. Oddly enough, if there is one area that is underperforming, based on preseason expectations, it is the pg play. I hope it picks up. This does not include McKinney, who plays the 2, who is starting to show why he was the Missouri HS Player of the Year coming out of high school. Hardy, another 2, needs to develop into a 3 pt threat (last yr he shot high 30s from 3). I like this team and am interested to see what Dos Anos will bring to the table.

Another thing that needs to be cleaned is that technical foul called on the assistant coach. Our assistant coach was livid and screaming at a player. He was so mad, he was at the 3 point line. He needs to control himself better. If I remember correctly, NMSU made 2 free throws and a basket. Luckily this 4 point swing didn't hurt us.

Hamilton flashed a little in his 4 minutes. Good to see. Probably a good reason he only gets 4 minutes though.

I like our bigs overall between Onyema, Solomon and Frazier. Not the biggest guys but they are tough down low, provide good defense and good rebounding technique.

Kalu still need lots of work, but he's a big boy. Still need to find that consistent scoring threat and for the love of God, make your damned free throws!
