OT: UT and OU to the SEC?

"How will the Big 12 stay open? Everything will be on the table. One source indicated it could go as large as 16 schools. Could a Western wing with San Diego State, BYU, Boise State and Colorado State be flanked by additions like Houston, Cincinnati, UCF and USF? Those are huge markets and promising programs. The Texas schools in the league – Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU – are expected to try and undercut Houston, but there aren’t many Group of Five programs that have its combination of local population and fertile recruiting ground."

Gives new meaning to a "Conference USA". Yes, I know this is not C-USA. Just sayin'...

Don't see the PAC 12 taking any left over B12 schools. The PAC 12 is a tight-nit group and have a very different culture among their membership. They wish to remain completely secular, and all members heavily associate in academics as well as sports. Can't see the culture of Texas Tech or Baylor as a mix with the likes of Cal or Stanford.

No, but I see Tech and Ok State in a mix with the likes of Arizona and Arizona State.

Crazy financial numbers! Hope this all somehow works out for UTEP too... Down the line, if at least a more regional conference... It's no wonder, the UTEP's of the world struggle, with the money that is made by some of these big programs. Same can be said, on how Texas, has not lived up to their piggy banks, as of late.

Ok.

Is there any scenario in which UTEP, El Paso, Sun Bowl, MountainStar, Fosters, all come together and put together an Olympic type proposal to get into the BigXII?

They say we will build facilities, give you this bowl game with this increased payouts, we will add these sports, etc....

Can El Paso/UTEP come up with something like they did with AAA baseball and say the time is now and make it happen?

Lmao, no.

The UTEP administration doesn’t give a sh$t about its athletic programs. It has been terribly frustrating to see other universities once on par with UTEP pour their blood, sweat, tears, and $$$$ into their athletic programs and reap significant rewards. The only direction UTEP athletics is going is backwards. In another wave of conference shake-ups, expect UTEP to be left behind again.

Highly unlikely since UTEP FB and MBB have been dormant for so long. If UTEP was winning, going to bowls and to ncaa tourneys on a regular basis and close to the top of the G5 in attendance, then they might get a serious look from a desperate and depleted Big 12.

Nope. Hiding behind the so called "truth", being "realistic" and all the other BS excuses for constantly and exclusively finding the worse case scenario in all things UTEP is trolling.
You’re just a weak person or someone who chooses to not see reality. UTEP football is a bottom 5 all-time program by any metric. Anyone who comes on here talking about 10 win seasons and being Top 25 is a total moron. Even making a bowl game is something this program can’t consistently do. Please tell us “realists” all the positives about UTEP football.

The “crown jewel” of UTEP athletics is the men’s basketball program. Which hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament in 11 years and has 1 conference championship since joining CUSA. A conference that is a 1 bid, weak league. At least now, there’s a new coach, which brings “hope”. However, that doesn’t mean that suddenly UTEP basketball is attractive to other conferences because Joe Golding beat UT at ACU last season.

If you think UTEP football and basketball haven’t sucked for the last decade, you’re the problem, not the “realists”.

Hate to agree with you, but I do. Nags did a great job for academics but ruined the athletic department. Just look at Utep track, and even rifle. They were usually racked nationally, not now.

“There’s a reason why A&M left the Big 12: the way the Big 12 was operating and the governance,” Athletic Director Ross Bjork told the Chronicle on Wednesday. “A&M is a flagship university, and with the size and scale of our place, we should have our own stand-alone identity in our own conference.”

100% Grade A bullcrap.

These schools don't have the academics for the Big Ten and they definitely won't bring eyeballs to increase the TV revenue. Not sure there's many teams out there that the Big Ten would accept at this point. Notre Dame seems to be pompous enough for the Big Ten, but Notre Dame wants no part of that stalled ship.
Iowa State and Kansas are both AAU members, so they have the academics for the Big 10. Okie State doesn't. Notre Dame is academically better than either three.

That's why they went to the SEC. They're going to have no problem with the Whorns in football early on. The Aggies have built an elite program.

Texas is going to find out what the SEC slogan "it means more here" means. In the last ten years Texas has the sixth best winning percentage in Big 12. The competition is about to get infinitely better. OU has dominated the big 12 winning 14 big twelve championships. Texas only has three. DKR is big stadium but nobody is ever going to confuse with an intimidating environment. It's a quiet stadium. You will never get the goosebumps you get from going to a game at Kyle Field or Tiger Stadium. The fans are much more fickle than most SEC fan bases. Their Olympic sports and basketball will be fine. They should excell at both. Football is going to be a different. I was at a fundraiser right after A&M SECeeded. RC Slocumb was the keynote speaker and he said UT Austin football was becoming like UC Berkeley football. He was spot on with that prediction. Texas is a 5 to 7 win program who is joining the best division in college football. They have much more in common with UC Berkeley than any of their new conference mates. There is nothing wrong with that. It's going to be a bumpy ride in the SEC.

When the Big East broke up 10 years ago. Notre Dame picked the ACC over the Big 10. They have a media rights and football scheduling agreement for the next 10 years. The 12 team playoff will force them to join a conference and that will be the ACC.

Not really. The move isnt scheduled until 2025. By that time Sark will have rebuilt the program and it will be like the series was in the Mack Brown era. One-sided, longhorn sided.

May not be a Big 12 left for Boise nor CSU to come to
That could happen and it's all speculation right now. Will other P5 conferences pick it apart or not? Will 3 or 4 Big 12 leftovers be able to rebuild or not? All speculation until we hear some real news. I'm just hoping at least one school leaves the MWC and that UTEP gets that spot due to history with those schools, geography and potential that has been proven in short spurts in the past. Wouldn't hurt to see UTEP's FB and MBB turn around this season.
