Maybe from a pure football standpoint but they bring very few tv eyes.
NY Times has UTEP and NMSU as 4th and 5th best options for MWC, below 4 FCS schools.
Is Southern Utah one of those schools ahead of us?

Some of the schools in the MWC are hell bent they are superior than UTEP, hence why they ditched us in the WAC days. That animosity feel keeps on lingering every time there is rumblings of MWC needing teams. That, and UTEP brings nothing to the table for those poser-stuck-ups to put their egos aside. Why not?
MWC only has 8 schools and any more losses will put them under the Mandatory number of 8. MWC either goes the FCS route by getting Sacramento State, UC Davis, Montana, etc.... or they pick up FBS schools.
The MWC doesn't have a lot of options right now, they are going to get raided again.
Stull was on cruise control the last decade. Him and Nata are the ones responsible for us not being in the MWC to begin with.
UTEP had a shot at joining 2x and turned it down. I know for a fact that at least 1 of those cases is 100% factual.
If that’s how you feel, that’s how you feel.Is Southern Utah one of those schools ahead of us?
There are no good FCS options for them. When the MWC was formed, UTEP football was awful and the basketball team was on its decline. It’s not that personal man. Some of the schools in the MWC are hell bent they are superior than UTEP, hence why they ditched us in the WAC days. The only way this happens is if UTEP is the last option, and there are plenty of FCS schools to call up before us, so not going to happen...again.
I knew of one instance, this is the first time I hear about a 2nd.
So you’d rather stay with NMSU, Sam Houston, and Delaware in CUSA?If MWC gets raided top to bottom, I do not want UTEP to leave. Do you really want to go to a MWC with NMSU and the Cal State-[put the Cali town FCS name here]? I don't.
It’s a question. I’m not paying a subscription to read that.If that’s how you feel, that’s how you feel.
Yes. The east coast media pub has value. So you’d rather stay with NMSU, Sam Houston, and Delaware in CUSA?
I agree but I think in the long run either at CUSA or MW we’ll be in a conference with a bunch of former FCS schools. Replace RGV with NAU and so on.Watered down MWC > CUSA by a mile. Who gives AF who is still to leave the MWC, if we don't jump now, we'll be in a conference with Rio Grande Valley, Permian Basin, and Sul Ross in the not too long distant future.
Our time to move is NOW. Senter knows this, as does Wilson. Let's hope they make the right call.
All those schools you just mentioned have nothing to do with MWC or CUSA. What does Iona, Maryland, or Rutgers have to do with this?Yes. The east coast media pub has value.
Ask yourself, and leave CUSA and UTEP out of it totally, who do you hear, read, see on social media:
In basketball, Iona or Washington State?
In football, Washington Huskies or Maryland Terps/Rutgers?
Do you read about UNM in Florida fishwrap? You do about UTEP and now NMSU (barfing in my mouth).
Did you stay up to see Fresno vs USC in 2022? That was mid major vs major west coast hyped game. I did but fell asleep. Most of you old timers on here biatched because you were not staying up to see a west coast game.
Ok, you don't know how to follow directions. So noted. All those schools you just mentioned have nothing to do with MWC or CUSA. What does Iona, Maryland, or Rutgers have to do with this?
Hasn’t UTEP played with Eastern Time Zone schools since 2005? How has that been working for us????
You’re asking me if I watched some random football game from two seasons ago? What does that have to do with anything?
It doesn’t matter. It’s 2024, you follow what you want and don’t what you don’t.Ok, you don't know how to follow directions. So noted.
It doesn’t matter. It’s 2024, you follow what you want and don’t what you don’t.
How has being with east coast teams for 20 years benefited UTEP?
We competed really hard against Southern utah tooAfter last weeks game of attendance ball I don’t see a way we get passed up.
It’s not that personal man.
Why has BYU scheduled home and home with us in basketball since? Colorado St has scheduled two football series with us. Think they scheduled us in basketball too. Air Force came to the Sun Bowl Tournament a few years ago. UNM has scheduled us several times in both sports. It was for BYU, Utah, Colorado St., Air Force and to some degree UNM. Seeing as though UNM is the only remaining one, then maybe....there's a chance for UTEP to the MWC.
They REALLY don't like UTEP in the Mormon state and I would bet Utah St would vote against us joining the MWC.
We’re good enough to schedule in the non-conference, but not to be in the conference with?
Some of you all are hilarious. It's like watching a 350 pound woman talk about how all the hot guys are going to ask her out on a date when she loses 50 pounds.
UCLA and USC left for more money. When it was determined that more money wasn’t coming their way in the Pac 12, Colorado and others left for the Big 12. Then Washington and Oregon left for more money (eventually) too. Cal and Stanford decided to be a part of the only power conference that wanted them - because of money.Yup! Just look at the former Pac 12, looking down their nose at what they consider sub-standard academic institutions. They'll play almost anyone one, but share a conference (aka money) with them, not a chance.
BYU thinks they are the Notre Dame of the west. It doesn't matter if they are or not, they believe it and they act like it.
Yeah, but the MWC just lost 4 staple members. So 100% Utep will be mentioned at the very least. The only confirmed talk of UTEP going to the MWC was when CUSA and MWC were going to merge. CUSA had more teams so UTEP was going to slide to the MWC side. The ‘alliance’ fell apart when they learned they would lose a basketball autobid by merging.
Most, if not all of those schools that refused UTEP in the past have moved on.Some of the schools in the MWC are hell bent they are superior than UTEP, hence why they ditched us in the WAC days. That animosity feel keeps on lingering every time there is rumblings of MWC needing teams. That, and UTEP brings nothing to the table for those poser-stuck-ups to put their egos aside.

Those programs now look at UTEP as an easy win. That's why they schedule us.Why has BYU scheduled home and home with us in basketball since? Colorado St has scheduled two football series with us. We’re good enough to schedule in the non-conference, but not to be in the conference with? They dislike El Paso, but will send their teams here anyway?
That’s partly true. There’s also other teams that are much easier to beat that they could schedule. If they truly felt that UTEP is trash and not worthy of being associated with, the Miners could be easily avoided. Those programs now look at UTEP as an easy win. That's why they schedule us.
Not surprising as UTEP and NMSU are the only FBS teams in the Mountain and Pacific time zones that the MWC could expand with.per zay galindo twitter:
Matt Brown reports that UTEP and NMSU are the top MWC expansions targets.
His report also says that both schools have been trying to get into the Mountain West for years, but faced pushback from New Mexico, along with other higher resourced schools.
I hope so!Yeah, but the MWC just lost 4 staple members. So 100% Utep will be mentioned at the very least.
It’s surprisingly to hear UNM tried to block us. Maybe/Hopefully that is more directed at NMSU. If I recall correctly, UNM was the only school to fight for us when the MWC was originally created.per zay galindo twitter:

It doesn’t matter if they did or not. The conference will add someone when it is beneficial to them. Do you think Texas A&M wanted Texas in the SEC? No, but Texas is there now because it benefits the conference. Florida would accept Florida St/Miami into the SEC and South Carolina would accept Clemson there too.
