Rebounding woes...

Lack of ability. The lack of a d1 center was always going to be this teams Achilles heel. Saturday will be another tough matchup. UTA is a worse matchup for us than NMSU is.

A little bit of the first and a whole lot of the second. There have been teams "small" in stature that were actually aggressive on the boards and considered good rebounding teams. Rebounding has as much to do with technique, spacing, effort, and fundamentals, as it does body size.

"rebounding woes" sounds like we have only a slight problem, it's downright disgusting. I'm sure Floyd is installing the "tiny rim" in the Foster-Stevens as we chat.

Like a couple of you above, I think it was both also. But...as athletic as this Miner team is, I think the lack of effort and will is what ultimately led NMSU to almost double the amount of boards we got. Siakam almost got as many by himself as we got as a team. To me it seems that nobody has stepped up and made it a priority, or mission, to clean the glass. I don't think our size has too much to do with it. SoMiss from a couple years ago was small by comparison, so was LaTech last year, yet both were competitive in the rebounding category. We, most likely, are not going to become a good rebounding team BUT we can and should get better than we are.

It's not the lack of a D1 Center. It's the lack of a rebounder. Hunter was not a center. Siakam is not a center. I thought Winn gave a better effort last night, but he's under sized and clearly tired in the second half. It's going to have to be a rebound by team commitment to improve our rebounding.

I was at the game and there's things that you see/feel during real time that you don't see in a stat sheet. Rebounding was an issue because we jacked up an instant, off balance and "elegant" three. No Miner was anywhere near enough to rebound because we were just barely getting there!
Their three big guys were, in Trump's words: HUUUUGE!
i really got the feeling that all of our new guys thought/new that they were better, quicker and more talented than the Aggies leading them to want to dismiss them quickly with a 3 point dagger. When they went in, it worked but when they missed they just rushed their next dagger even quicker. They got frustrated that they couldn't kill the beast and the beast ate them. We'll get them here and things will be different. Hopefully...

NMSU did a great job hustling their bigs back on defense every possession. They allowed no easy baskets.

Our offense is why we can't rebound, if you shoot layups you have a chance, you shoot from downtown your'e not going to be close enough to get a rebound. Add this to the fact the guys shooting or driving (Artis, Moore, Morris) are the same ones which need to get back on defense you set up the perfect storm for run outs. Aggies have a better half court game than we do (and UTA on Saturday runs and even more effective version). We will play differently and am looking forward to the rematch with the Aggies, if we make shots we will be ok.

Okay, granted. I agree with what you said. However you are speaking of offensive rebounds. Because we have yet to show any propensity to rebound effectively at either end of the court, how do you explain the lack of defensive rebounding? I can settle for minimal second chance points, especially if our shot selection improves. But it is crucial to not give up second chance points, which we clearly aren't doing either. Thoughts?

on the defense side we let them to close to the basket, and we seldom clear the ball clean it looks congested in the lane, not sure why. When we zone we end up to far out to get a rebound, also our junk defense box and one or whatever leaves us with only two down low at times and a good rebounding team will overpower that really quickly by keeping a big transiting through the lane at all times. Vint and Thomas just can hold position against most inside players, Winn can but he is not always in the optimal position to grab a board. We are going to have to forget about the transition game for a while, and send everyone to the boards. Morris and Moore are good offensive players but they need to put some of that energy into getting boards on defense and not sprinting down court.
