Scotty Walden new UTEP FB Coach

Who here is going to apply?? It would be nice to have a miner digs spy inside.

Don't be shocked if we end up with a winning record next year we are going to be FAST ! looks like we have a decent O-line... its going to be fun post the Nebraska , Colorado ST, and TN games (although I think we steal one of those games!)

I wouldn't rule it out but his staff is loyal -- UTEP is a great opportunity for all of them... don't worry the staff will be loaded just like the 2024 Miners LETS GO!

This ERA will be different -- they may not win out of the gate (I think they will) but they will eventually compete for a CUSA title and constistently go to a bowl. NO DOUBT
I wonder what ridiculous things will be said between now and September

Going back as far as I can remember, UTEP has won in years where we had a proven successful quarterback, and NFL or maybe CFL caliber skill talent, all-conference level recievers, RBs, tight ends etc. Through in a good blocking backs and kickers and all-pro level defensive players. How many of those do we have this year? Honestly...

1988 Pat Haggerty - John Harvey - Arnie Atkinson - Reggie Barret - Chris Jacke
2000 Rocky Perez - Brian Natkin - Lee Mays - Ricky Bishop
2004 Jordan Palmer - Howard Jackson - Johnnie Lee Higgins

Lots of NFL players in this bunch.

Every one of those teams also had a very good defense. Tony Tolbert, Menson Holloway, Thomas Howard, Q Demps. It helps to have a defense that can get timely stops

Sort of on this topic, a few days ago I did a google search on the roster of the 2003 football team. The google AI summary basically listed every player that has gone pro as being on that team.

Chris Jacke, Lee Mays, Johnnie Lee Higgins, Tony Tolbert, Jordan Palmer, Aaron Jones, Brian Young, Brian Natkin. Hell I think it even had Seth Joyner.

AI is sometimes stupid, but man, imagine that team. The best that have ever played here all on one team.

I wouldn't expect it. His son is the WeFense coordinator, arguably one of the worst special teams in the country last year. Maybe if they start looking better.
To be fair if you say you’re family on any sports board you’re going to catch all kinds of hell if the results go south. I’m sure he’s still here, just not posting.

He's a proud dad. I'm sure all of us would be proud parents if our son was a D1 coach. It's probably best for a proud dad to not go to message board where things can and do get a little crazy. I wish him well. I'm sure he meant well.

100% I can’t fault the dude for having high hopes for the team because he believes in his kid. And I’m sure it’s tough reading our criticisms of the program, because in a way we’re criticizing his kid. I totally get that could be tough for any parent to read. I hope this team can prove him right.

Remember that one tight ends mom that got pretty butthurt when people on here started calling her baby Manos de Piedra?

Technically, 2 out of the 3 posts are still in play. No we didn’t manage to steal one from Nebraska or Tennessee but who doesn’t remember the early days of being a blindly optimistic UTEP fan? That phase where every season felt like maybe this would be the one.

Some have been riding this rollercoaster for over 30 years, enduring disappointment after disappointment and yet somehow still hold onto the hope that one day we’ll pull off the unthinkable. It’s part delusion, part loyalty, but all heart.

I think it’s funny when fans predict victories over P4 teams. UTEP got smashed by Northwestern in 2023 and a lot of people thought that would be the day they finally beat a P4 team.

1st year, 1st time head coach, coming off a loss and 15,000 in attendance was too much for UTEP to handle.

At the time however, we really had FCS talent, and not a good FCS team at that. Anyone predicting a P4 win with those teams was definitely hallucinating.

That said, under Mike Price was the last time we had talent ranked this high by the ranking services and we went toe to toe with Colorado in the bowl game. I am certainly not predicting any P4 victories at this time, but if the recruiting continues at this level, a future win over a bad P4 team might be a viable prediction in a few years.

But at this point I would kill just to break what is the longest bowl win drought in college football, no matter who the opponent is.

2028 we have PAC 12 teams Utah St and Texas St at home. Would that count as P5 wins?
