Should Utep offer Scholarship to SocialMedia Celebrity??

There are some hoopsters that have become famous off social media. Like the Ball family but there are lower level celebs. Like Juilian Newmans sister. Her name is Jaden Newman has 1 million followers on Instagram. I'd be okay if the womens team gave her a scholarship. She would bring attention to the school. Might sell tickets??

I'd be okay if if the Mens team gave a scholarship to Social media celebrity.Some of them do have skills . It be no different than giving Jordan's/ Lebrons kids a schollie. Jordan's kid really wasnt that good.

Well think about it?? What's the difference between giving a social media celebrity a scholarship than a local kid from El Paso?? I wouldn't have a problem if the womens team gave Jaden Newman a Scholarship even if she is not good enough. How would it hurt them?? They dont bring fans to the arena ??

Now for the mens team. I wouldn't mind if the player is not good enough for D1 to give them a walk on spot. Let's say if this celebrate has 100k followers or more?? Here in AZ there is a kid name Gio.Wise. He is a youtube/Instagram celebrity kind of. Has about 50k followers. That's more followers than some top high school recruits. He is an okay player he could get better. But I wouldn't mind if UTEP gave him a walk on spot.

Utep needs to make money they cant be picky. Utep has cheap donors they need to figure out other ways to make money. Now that colleges can pay players its something to look at. Winning wont get Utep to the Mountain West or the AAC. It is money!!!! Rice or UTSA hasnt won anything but they still got in. The local kids gets a scholly after 2-3 years as a walk on. No social media “celeb” is going to move the needle of the athletic budget. Not happening.

Because you have been following long enough on here to know El Paso along with all of New Mexico was not known as the most fertile ground for recruiting. Kugler, despite his coaching faults, changed all that. He and Dimel saw the massive increase in Fort Bliss which brought in families from all over make the recruiting grounds more fertile. 79936 is in the top 5 most population dense zip codes according to U.S. Census so there has to be some good local recruits? Dimel told a sportscaster that last year and by golly he was right.

El Paso now has major P5 schools visiting high school games more regularly unlike every few years for that one prized recruit.

That’s a dumb stat. Unless you’re looking to put a business there, it means nothing. It doesn’t mean there’s more good recruits there than elsewhere. It doesn’t change how many people are in a city or mean that the zip code is more popular than others.

What schools are even in that zip code? Hanks and Montwood? What major recruits have come from those schools the last 20 years?
