SI Black History Month article: Texas Western's 1966 Title Changed the Course of College Sports

I only said that it is not relevant in recruiting players. It’s nice for the fans to have, but is in no way tied to any current or future success the team may have.

Exactly. It's kind of like being valedictorian in high school. It's nice to have and will get you a tremendous amount of scholarship money and your pick at colleges. But 10 years after graduation nobody will care whether you were #1 or the last in your class or what college you went to. It's all about what you have accomplished.

So is Baylor breaking the streak?
I was much more worried about Tech last year. Baylor has a lot of junkyard dogs, but I don't know if they have a transcendent star to carry them through the tournament. Not saying they can't do it - kind of hard to argue against a team that has a 20+ game winning streak.

Me too. I think Tech wins last year if Owens doesn't get hurt. I was kinda rooting for them so UTEP can move forward from the 1966 championship, but then I was relieved when they lost.

Baylor is pretty damn good, definitely a 1 seed right now and final four capable. There defense it STOUT, but like you said I'm not sure that Butler is a transcendent player.

BTW Azubuike went beast mode on them today. It may require a coin flip for them to even win the Big 12.
