Any word on who is leading the Football strength and conditioning program in such a vital area to performance on the field?? I am surprised to have not heard more on this issue. Hopefully someone with a solid track record from a top program. Cannot wait to learn more.

Impressive credentials. However, the REAL value of a SS&C coach is leadership. In many ways, the SS&C staff is the eyes and ears of the football staff. They spend more time with the athletes than the coaches, honing their collective battlefield attitude, toughness, and hunger to hit the field (and the bad guys). THAT'S the difference between true SS&C leaders and guys with a lot of letters behind their names. Schadt obviously has Dimel's trust and confidence, is likely not just a yes man. That's a plus for UTEP football right off the bat, so to speak...

Totally agree. I could be wrong, but under Kugler and maybe Price as well, there wasn't a strength coach.

I liked Kirk Davis, thought he did a good job with Metz and Aaron and Alvin while Kugler was here, but I was always mad and concerned that UTEP's lineman were always looking fat and out of shape when other schools lineman were more in shape and toned.

I was reading on another post about Kevin Schadt, and how the kids really respected and listened to him. That he was a great communicator and the kids at Kstate liked him. Might be the leadership you speak of. Lets hope

I just hope the nutritional elements are better. When Devin was there it was here's a Luby card go eat. Not having a cafeteria hurts alot.

This is probably the area where almost every school can improve and make a great difference in the performance of its players

So if there wasn’t a cafeteria, I’m guessing there wasn’t an accessible nutritionist. And if there was, if the kids have to go off to eat, dietary accountability must’ve been non existent.

Both programs my son played in had an on site nutritionist who made them show him their plate before they started chowing down.

Agree, but the quality and the resources vary greatly

True about resources varying. However, with all the time and effort that goes into S&C (which is a lot) and with what is now known about the importance of nutrition in regards to that training, anyone not with the program is short changing all their effort. Most programs are very aware of that. I would imagine UTEP is one of the last FBS programs to actually take appropriate action. It doesn’t have to be complex and over the top costly.

It blew my mind when I heard what the kids were eating pre game a couple years ago. I wasn’t aware, but sounds like not much had changed since then.

Dimel said something about facility changes he wanted, maybe this is one of them.
