So I was hesitant to make predictions last year for Utep Football with a new coach. This year I’m not! Walden will be the first coach since Stull to springboard Utep to a Bigger Opportunity! Utep will go at least 8-4 next year and at least have an opportunity to play for a Conference Championship going into the last week of the season. You heard it here first Book It!!! Oh and we will win a Bowl Game!!! The Great NostraDumbAss has spoken!

I was the opposite. I fell for the hype and expected 5-6 wins last season.

This season, I am not sure. A major portion of the roster is young TX HS kids. OL didn't receive much experienced additions (portal guys). Lost the DC, Clark. Defense sill probably take a step back. Nelson is a huge question mark. If Nelson is good, then the running game should be pretty good. The lack of a passing threat kept the running game in check. And I'm not sure if we improved on special teams.

I was expecting a tequila advertisement here.

To count on a UTEP Football team to be the cure for a bad UTEP Basketball season has practically always been a very bad idea.

Fire the HC and AD.
Because they did not do either, if we thought 8th in CUSA was bad, wait till next year. We will then carry that over into the MWC with a new coach who will have to build a team from scratch. They will be lucky to win 10 games.

Not sure the lack of understanding that both firings need to be made to save UTEP basketball. They are doing way more harm than good.

8 wins is optimistic at best. We need a lot of things to break in UTEP’s favor for them to hit that mark. I’m not saying Walden can’t do it, but 5 wins seems doable….. 6 if we’re lucky….. 4 is probably more likely.

Does Utep football win more games than Utep Basketball next year lol I don’t know if I’m being facetious or it’s not that far out of a question haha 🤣

The good thing going for us next year is we have a very favorable conference schedule. 6 wins should be the floor, and if it's significantly lower than that, we probably need to look long and hard at Walden's ability to coach.

I just have a hard time proclaiming 6+ wins on blind faith. All of us as UTEP fans should be more cautious than most.

Yeah, I hear you. But we have 1 FCS team, 2 teams that were in FCS last year, and 1 that was in FCS 2 years ago. That should be 4 wins. Emphasis on should. If not, then we have some issues moving the MWC.

No wins has this thread bookmarked screenshot and ready for future reference.
Good! I had the honor of meeting Walden finally and add on top of that what the HS Coach here in DFW said and I have a glimmer of hope. Realistically Utep will probably win 6 or 7, but I had to put 8 for more Shock Value! lol

I agree with you 100%. There needs to be a floor when it comes to our mediocrity but we seem to smash through the cement floor instead of breaking the glass ceiling.

I have to admit, I’m starting to buy into the hype. But it’s still not enough for me to predict a winning season. It’s nothing against Walden. UTEP’s football history just makes me skeptical. They’ll have to prove it on the field first before I ever go into a season expecting seven or more wins.

That’s more than fair! I’ll say this, they definitely have to prove it on the field like you said, but it’s wild how different talent looks even in practice in terms of size and speed. I don’t know if this is true, but someone who’s attended some spring practices says it reminds him more of what he saw at SMU before they moved to the ACC in terms of talent and speed. I’ll take that has a positive. However it has to translate to wins of course so we shall see!

It be nice if El Paso had another college to support. That way if Utep is sucking El Paso can support the college.
Living in Nashville, there's plenty of misery to go around with Vanderbilt as the proverbial bottom feeder of the SEC. Pavia could replace Jesus in most churches around here based on last year's win against Alabama, however. It only gives me a glimmer of hope that somehow this new 5-star QB will end up with a statue in front of the Sun Bowl with 6 wins next season.

GO MINERS!

Did you know there is a University of Maryland global campus in Fort Bliss. We could route for the Terps?? They have a good basketball program. How is SUL Ross State doing??

The real question is who is going to care about Utep sports after we are gone?? We are pretty much the last remaining fans. Utep does a horrible job with the younger generation. Maybe they just do not really care?? Utep is going to be the next Blockbuster and Malls. Don Haskins center will be turn into a pickleball courts and Sun Bowl will be demolished to build parking garages. How sad ...😢😢😢
