Not surprised that the posters that heard the Floyd/Kappie "beatdown" sided with Kappie and posted how "mean and unprofessional" Coach acted. I read the posts then listened to the recording and I gotta say: The coach WAS waiting for Kappie in the bushes with a baseball bat! I like Kappie and I consider him the preeminent sportscaster in town. And I love it when sportscasters challenge the coaches/administrators and ask the tough questions and go for the throat. We all do. But conversely, I love it when the coaches/administrators reply with tough answers and go for the throat as well. Kappie, rightly or wrongly, defended us fans during the post season when players transferred by directly questioning whether the coach was at fault and whether he (and his staff) was up to the job of handling this generation of student athletes. A fair question I think. But along with that he gave voice to that loud and constant gang that is unequivocally calling for coach's head. Well today Coach Floyd just got done defending himself and his program from all that. And now this same group is loudly whining that he's mean and unprofessional and he should be fired for that too.
Me, I support Kappie and Coach and if you listen to what was said with an open mind, maybe millennials are different after all. I know Coach Haskins would have been appalled.

The bottom line is, do you buy what Floyd is selling -- that we'll be better next year? We'll know soon enough, if we don't already.

No one is trying to buy a thing. Coach Floyd stated the facts. We all like to run
our mouths in desperation for not making the tourney. It is what it is. You can't
say that we have the best reporters because they too have a tendency in spreading
rumors without any foundation. We all come out with the reliable source card.
Some rumors might be true but not all of them.

So what do you guys suggest?

Go Miners...

I've been buying four prime season tickets for $3,140 a year for ten years, the best years of which for me as a fan were Barbee's.

I've supported Floyd and UTEP, and will continue to support UTEP. Floyd, however, has had long enough to turn this thing around. I suggest he be replaced, along with his entire staff. We need new blood and a new direction. It's time.

Millennials are different. They've grown up different and look at the world different. But each generation has had a different take on society and their interaction in it. As a coach, you change with the times. I don't know how he interacts with his players, but today's players aren't going to standby and get yelled at repeatedly and not be turned off by it. Nor are they going to be told to do something without an explanation. Gone are the days of "do it cause I told you to" majority. As a coach you adapt to that. Kids transferring from UTEP - and him, is an indictment on him as a coach.

What people are obviously forgetting is this damages the program. We live in the age of the social network. Kids talk and they can reach out and talk to other kids they don't even know, simply via a variety of social network offerings. The only common threads they share are through a school and a sport. Kids bailing on a program can easily share their reasons why beyond their social circle in seconds. Those that want to know can reach out to find out why just as easy. Just look at the fall out at TAMU and what one of their coaches tweeted, indirectly, but everyone knew who he was talking about. Several players bailed on them within seconds.

Floyd, IMO, hasn't done much to remain the HC at UTEP. Is him going off on the reporter a firing offense? Probably not (suspension maybe). But it certainly puts him in the crosshairs for a serious discussion. UTEP needs to stop settling and accepting mediocrity from it's coaches - and it's administrators.

Floyd is angry about social media because he doesn't understand it -- deep down he probably fears it.

When he says, "we'll give you the news when we're ready to give it," he shows what a dinosaur, egomaniac, and control freak he is.

Haskins was a trendsetter -- ahead of the generational curve. Floyd is more like Rupp -- hopelessly stuck in the past.

All "discussible" statements without the usual diatribe. Gracias. I would say that very few of us know what his (and his considerably experienced staff) has done or is doing to foment a relationship with the student athletes. You all are probably guessing. And the only clue you have is the fact that we have transfers. Which Coach Floyd addressed at the Presser. You've heard from Bohannon. You've heard or read the messages from the transfers as they depart. We continue to recruit and sign players. No evidence that I know of that to show that the coach maligns players. None. Yeah, lots of haters posting shit about 'arrogance" "ego" and "yelling", but so what. It's a forum where you can pretty much say whatever without facts. I'm amazed when people post that they "know" the thoughts of the person that they are attacking. Really? I'd like to get you in a poker game where you put up your rent money and bet according to what you perceive I have.

I'm more impressed with your seemingly pure faith in the "where there's smoke, there's no fire" philosophy. You don't have to know the man. You don't have to break bread with his staff to see what's going on. There is a disconnect between him and his players. That's obvious. A coach or a program can write off one player transferring out and whatever public reason they give. But when have 2-3, or more transferring out, there's a problem. So what can that problem be? Either it's a disconnect between what was said and reality or the coach is a poor judge of player vs. system fit. You can sit and try and figure that out from now until the year 2021.

The point is Floyd isn't without question. A number of them. As an athletic director, I'd want to know why we're suddenly having a rash of athletes transferring out of the program. Not just basketball, but football as well. Good AD's ask those questions. But good AD's also evaluate a HC blowing up at a reporter and engaging in a shouting match in addition to their wins vs. loses. Sometimes you can't blame the athlete for it not working out. After all, didn't you recruit them?

Lastly, you say, there's no evidence of Floyd maligning his players. Really? Are you sitting in the living room of the player when they're being recruited. Are you part of the conversation and the promises made? I doubt it. I've been around sports, particularly football for the majority of my life. Coaches make promises to players, provide assurances just to get them. That's powerful to an impressionable kid looking to be wanted somewhere. Given Floyd's history, he's not walking on water in this category. BTW, kids will keep coming when offered to play somewhere. It's the nature of sport. It's the nature of recruiting. But if you're FOS, then don't expect the kid to be full of "I'm gonna stick it out" loyalty.

"having a rash of athletes transferring out of the program". Trifle-lworrior, did you not view the Press conference? That ship has sailed.
"there is a disconnect between him and his players." Really? And what, you want me to put my faith in your powers of observation? I think not.
And lastly, lookup the word "maligning". Has nothing to do with recruiting and everything to do with what you are doing.

So now because I, in particular, disagree with you and your assessment, you're going to go all juvenile and resort to insults? LOL. That's very adult of you - oh I'm sorry, that's very elementary of you. Here's a thought kid, if you're going to post your opinion about a subject, then be prepared for disagreement. But if you're going to be insulting - or try to be insulting, then that diminishes your point in the first place. While I'm at it, maybe YOU should look up the word "malign" and read more than the first definition.

When you decide to be an adult, feel free to post a reply. Otherwise, take your baby feet and toddle on over to ESPN where the kids play.

It's common knowledge around these parts, that if you have a different point of view than vegasminer, you will be shot with arrows of self righteous indignation. What he fails to realize is that he falls face first into the trap of dualistic thinking. In other words, his points, usually being in direct opposition to the points he is countering, are nothing other than the opposite side of the very same coin. As if one side of the coin could possibly represent more of the "truth" than the other. It would be wise of him to look up the 'observer-observed pair' so that he might one day realize that the observed is not independent from the observer. The observer, in fact, affects the outcome of that which is observed. In practical terms, what all that means is, we are all full of shit to some extent in that we are merely expressing one of many points of view. We see things as we are, not as things truly are. Most of us are aware of that already. Some people, though, happen to think that they have a monopoly on truth and try to convince others, through devout earnestness, that this is so. Through the power of observation, I (the observer) have witnessed that vegas (the observed), is one such person. I say this all in good spirited fun!:D

Thanks for putting it in layman's terms, Fanati.
