I'm going to get started by saying, that this is only my opinion and I hope you all can interject into this conversation. I think the reason Tim Floyd has not been successful here at UTEP is because he can’t cheat like he did in his previous jobs in college basketball. Bob Stull put him in tight leach here at UTEP and held him accountable for his actions. Tim Floyd does not work that way and the only way he can recruit good players is by cheating. The reason I’m writing about this, is because of the corruption we are seeing in college basketball today. That is why we will never be able to compete with the P5 programs because they cheat to a whole new level, where money is king and doing the right thing is out the window. To be part of a power 5 program you need a lot of money to corrupt the NCAA officials. I think if we were able to get away with some of the things P5 programs do, then I think recruiting at UTEP would be a different story. I think even Bob Stull said that he ran a clean program here at UTEP and never had any infractions by the NCAA.

Yes, the paragon of virtue Tim Floyd can't compete with these programs who aren't on the level. Floyd has a NCAA rule named after him for goodness sakes.

My problem with Floyd isn't that he can't compete with Louisville, that's to be expected. My problem with Floyd is he can't compete with NMSU and CUSA. What's NMSU bribing the players with? Hay? Fertilizer? Green Chile? Turqoise?

his team competed very well with Conference USA last season. It was earlier on in the non-conference games where they had trouble.

I'd do something sophmoric for green chile. That's stuff is a drug for me sometimes. I just don't like it rajas style. That would take actual money for me to do funny business.

Second, 07 hit the nail right on the head. Two of CUSA's best reside in smaller rural can't find it on the map towns and CTF can't get past the first round of the NIT at best? Petino's story is well documented. I get the cut throat 'bama vs Auburn type relationship they have with Kentucky basketball. But you really don't have to sell the farm or do new age incantations to a high power in the ethereal world to be competitive. You just have to bust your ass. This was proven in our own backyard by a former high school coach from BFE.

I am going to say that this is the season that is going to make or brake
Coach Floyd. Lets just wait and see what happens. We got a core of
experience on a core of young players with expectations of stepping up
to the plate.
I guess I am still a believer, I just can't give up, I still have hope.

If you think about it for a second, the corruption around the NCAA is why you
see a lot of transfers. This kids are getting tempted to go to another program
that offers them some incentives. Some kids don't care if they keep the bench
warm as long as they get what was promised. Some will do it just to keep a
program from making it to march madness.
