Tirus Smith announces transfer intentions....

Trey Wade is also transferring.

Saw last night that Fresno recruit 6 8 240 lb Efie Odigie from Houston was granted his release from his LOI to Fresno. May not mean anything but...

Wow so down another Big Man! Terry has his work cut out for him and another sholorahip opens up. I'm not sure how big of a loss this is, because we only saw glimpses, but nothing consistent. I'm sure there's 6'9-6'11 players who can come in right away and give us more. Good Luck to him though

I hope you're right but its doubtful this late in the period. Impact big men are hard to find especially this late in the cycle.

Damn yeah was expecting Big things from Wade, but had a feeling that leaves only 4 scholarship players... PG-Gilyard, PG-Magee, SG-Osborne and F- Paul Thomas Ouch!!! Our best remaining players probably, with exception of Magee, but he showed signs. So Terry needs 8 players in addition to Martinez if he's still coming. Well it'll be a fresh start to say the least, but he has his work cut out for him that's for sure!

I liked Tirus Smith, but won't pretend like losing him is a big deal at this point. He missed a bunch of layups and other shots right under the rim then was injured for part of the season... and it's not like the team was winning every game while he was playing anyway.

Both are big losses based on need and then potential. Not suprised about Wade, but I am suprised Smith is leaving. Wade will waste another whole year due to his prop 48 status. Good luck to both. This is looking like a typical rebuild now.

It does hurt losing both. Trey had All CUSA written all over him. Tirus was a much needed big wide body. He was just a freshman and showed major upside within two years, however, I totally respect their decision. I really liked both players. Good luck to both and positive blessings from this fan in their future endeavors.

Would rather have kept and built around both, but not necessarily a bad thing. This was going to be a decent size rebuild for CRT regardless of whether these two bolted. This just means more of the team will be Terry recruits than the previous staff’s. No excuses about playing with someone else’s guys. I still give a pass for next year. But I’d like to see year to year improvement, and competing for a CUSA championship in year 3 and for sure by year 4.

When all the dust settles, the bball program will likely be in the worst condition most of us have ever seen.

After doing the research on Terry, I'm not sure he's got the clout to turn this thing around in any kind of expeditious fashion, if at all.

IMO, we'll see about 3-4yrs of recruiting struggles to try and get the right combo of experienced players and freshman to bring back stability to the program. By that time, we'll be calling for his head when we've still yet to get anything other than a cbi invite. Just a hunch though...

Lol hope your hunch is wrong. Seriously though your hunch has no merit. If you're just basing it off shown potential your hunch of failure is at about 30% while it working well for Terry is at about 70%. Not sure what you base your hunch on, but its your opinion hope its Completely Inaccurate! Ill wait and see, with hopeful anticipation based on Terrys past. So I feel the exact opposite of you.

I would guess Wade will opt for JC next year, and then transfer back up to D1. For Smith, I could see him transferring over to a D1 school, and sitting out the year, since he hasn't already red-shirted. I really liked Smith in terms of attitude and heart. I thought Wade would be our best incoming recruit last year based on what I had heard; along with Gilyard. If he can tighten up his game; especially on the defensive end, he has nice potential.

In my opinion, next year would have been a major rebuild even with these two guys on board. The reality is that we need a major influx of talent to have any chance to be competitive next year. Terry has a ton of work in front of him, as we expected. I think that Grad transfer market should be the first priority.

With the loss of Wade and Smith it will be harder for Coach Terry to rebuild.
It's just way too many pieces to replace to build a decent team to compete
for a title in a couple of years unless he goes the Juco route.

GO Miners...

UAB did it with a very Freshmen and Sophomore heavy class a few years ago. While I don’t expect that kind of turn around, anything is possible. I like that we quickly get to see what Terry is made of.

This leaves Thomas, Gilyard, Magee, Osborne, Highler (assuming he gets a scholarship). Add Martinez and Ochieng that makes 7 and leaves 6 scholarships to fill. If he adds the 2 FSU players that opened their recruiting that would make 9 players with 4 scholies to fill.

Snubs I you think Hitler will get a Scholarship? And I have heard nothing on Ochieng. I'm more along the lines of thinking we'll need 7 to 8 new guys

I don't think Hitler will get a scholie. Deshaun Highler might though. We have plenty to give.

My hunch is merely based on Terry's record of success, the lack of returning talent/ depth, and our programs recent status as a mid tier competitor in a forgettable bball league.

But, like you said, it's just a hunch and it means nothing. I have to say, however, that my hunches/ predictions have never been far off. At the very least, i can't remember a time in recent years where the program has pleasantly surprised me by exceeding my expectations. Maybe Terry will make a believer outta me yet, but a believer I am certainly not at the moment...

Lol sorry didn't check auto correct. Howver its not just about giving out Scholorships Hahah. If he earns it that's one thing. My question is why do you think he has earned a D1 Scholorship, what do you know that no one else does?

I'm not correcting the Hitler post its too funny lol I'm not sure if Hitler's Great Grandson Plays ball in Germany, but Terry should recruit him. I'm sure he has great leadership skills and is a Firece Competitor. Hahaha...

Coach Terry now has a great deal of rebuilding to do. I'm hoping that UTEP's better recruiting budget (compared to Fresno State), fan support, school history, facilities and the fact UTEP has a new regime in the athletics department will help him get and develop more talent than he got at Fresno State. That's my hope anyway. We'll see if he can put what I just said on the court come game time. At least he has come out swinging for the fences already recruiting wise. Odd baseball analogy for a school that doesn't have a baseball team. Go Miners.

Tirus was a dynamite team player and cheerleader with a great attitude. Surprised and sad to see him go. Wade on the other hand had a sour attitude but tremendous ability and future. Not surprised to see him fly the coup.
Hopefully Terry has these losses covered and then some. Maybe they are leaving because they knew about new arrivals that we don't know about.

I know nothing.

At 5'9" Adolf Hitler is a bit undersized as a point guard. He has trouble dribbling to his left and tends to dribble the ball with his right arm fully extended. Sometimes plays with half the testicular fortitude of others. Has done well in international play against most of Europe, but was cold in a long game against Russia. Lost in a war of a game against Great Britain also. Will probably get burned against the US competition. If given a scholarship it would be for the belief of some that he's more known for his pregame and halftime speeches.
