Transfer Portal

All of these portal updates make it really hard to care about the individuals on a team. Zero connection to the school or community. I know why it's happening $$$$$ but truly sucks for fans of the schools...all schools. 4 year commitments for players with any skills is a thing of the past.

I don't care who signs with UTEP anymore. I'll just wait until the collection of jerseys hits the floor in the fall and see how it goes.

You’re not wrong, however the power they’ve given to 18-21 year old kids many coming from backgrounds with no money, what do you expect. There needs to be more rules in place. For instance, if you transfer more than once you sit out and lose a year of eligibility, NIL limitations per school, Larger schools who poach smaller schools have to pay a fee, etc…

I'm blaming the system 100%. When you see guys from schools that made a good run, with a solid core "coming back", then half or more enter the portal, it reminds me to root for the jersey, not the kid. No matter how good the situation, the kids will follow the money. There is no new rules or changes on the horizon to fix it.

I don't care who we're chasing or who commits. They will in all likelihood only be here one year. The proof is in all of the portal announcements we see in this thread.

This sounds good in theory but I really think they need to clamp down on these transfer rules. These guys are essentially jumping from team to team trying to go from contract to contract. Plus I wonder how much money is paid to athletes under the table, you don’t hear about that happening but I can’t imagine it went away.

the ncaa should pay each student athlete a set amount, no matter what sport or what college. All schools should donate 75% of their sports income into the pool.
This would even the playing field.

Is super concerning not hearing anything on uteps radar with so many spots to fill
UTEP is delaying the inevitable by keeping Golding. He can’t recruit and coach and no assistant coach that is a bad ass recruiter wants to go a job where the coach is on the hot seat and has one year left on his contract. Nothing is going to change.

Senter should have ripped the band aid off once the conference tournament ended.

Looking for some coal in the rough!
The funny thing is Golding probably thinks as long as he finds system guys he can coach em up, problem is he hasn’t proved he can do that consistently. With all honesty this team should’ve been better last year, but they were weak mentally. Also didn’t have a leader or enforcer.
