I'm ok with the complete overhaul, but not with Golding. I feel like we are wasting 2 years now.

Yeah, the ceiling was hit with our prior roster and not many guys were consistently worth a damn. A complete overhaul IS welcome. But like you said, it's with Golding and we already know how that story is gonna likely end.
What's another 2 years? We already wasted 4.
Yeah it’s obvious he still thinks he’s in the WAC or weaker conference and can win still. CUSA isn’t the Bees Knees, but it’s stronger top to bottom than all, but 10 conferences. Then when we get to MWC it’ll be top 7 or 8. He is obviously oblivious that their has to be improved talent! He has to go after this year and should’ve been gone this year! Prove me Wrong!
Or…he doesn’t have an eye for better talent. Or…he just can’t win the recruiting battles.
He hasn't shown he can be a closer. He has brought some better recruits on visits but was unable to seal the deal. Terry, on the other hand, did a better job signing guys he brought on campus. Initially the excuse was no NIL, then not enough NIL. My understanding is that he could have brought some of the current guys back, but chose to start pretty much from scratch. I guess we will see what he can do with $600k.
Has Senter commented to anyone about his decision to keep Golding?

We are wasting 2 years. With that being said, College Sports is year to year now. Indiana has zero players returning.
You need that guy that can get the Portal kids. I guess High School recruiting is dead. Any mid major that gets a high school kid is basically getting him prepared to play somewhere else.

Just curious bc I have the memory of a fish when it comes to Golding's recruits, but who are the better recruits that have come in on visits that he's missed on? I think part of the criticism related to Golding's recruiting (lack of) prowess is that he aims way too low. So remind me, who are the big misses? Who are the keion kindred/Alex galindo/Isaac Hamiltons that Golding has gone after and failed to land?
Off the top of my head: Dae Dae Grant, Joey Calcaterra, Jairus Hamilton. I would add Tristan Newton, but realistically, UTEP had no chance at getting him. These are guys who may not have had the hype of players like Kindred or Galindo, from way back in the day, but were actually productive college players. Instead Golding "hit on" guys like Wickware and Jorge Moreno.

This picture right here, is why UTEP basketball has sucked for 15 years. No UTEP assistant has gone on to do better things. Floyd, Terry, and Joey Pewter have hired assistants that nobody else desires and aren’t worthy of head coaching jobs. That’s why recruiting sucks and why we finish in 8th place.

Assistants are usually not hired away from mid majors. That happens with only the big boys.
That's not what he's saying. He's saying they go on to become successful head coaches on down the road. Just like Dirk Koetter and Andy Reid weren't hired away from UTEP, they went on to be successful head coaches and no doubt contributed greatly to the success of the Stull years.

Not true that's not what he is saying. It took Andy Reid long time to be head coach. He didn't become head coach because he had Utep on his resume. Only big majors get their assistants poached. Some of Uteps past assistants were former Head Coaches. Omar Thomas is an assistant coach does that count?? What about Demps he is an Head Coach? Mack Leftwich will be a head coach later I can see.

The sentence does not read "No UTEP assistant has BEEN HIRED AWAY FROM UTEP to do better things."
Read those two things slowly until you understand the difference, then respond.
Former players who are now assistant coaches is just changing the topic. You are correct that Leftwich was a student assistant for 1 season. I would kill to have him on our staff now.
Finally, the official news came out that many of us already knew. This is exactly what I figured Senter would do. Met with Golding after the season, said some changes need to be made, Golding said I’ll retool staff, new assistant will bring in a player or two, Bla Bla Bla… This change rarely works, it’s just a bandaid on a deep cut. Anyways we’ll see who the new coaches bring in and recruit, probably low D1 or D2 talent,
I agree this rarely if ever works. Every coach gets to fire the assistants as a last resort. Kugler and Dimel got to do the same thing as well.

It’s gotta be at least two years, right? What assistant coach in their right mind is going to be ok with a 1 year contract? That extension had to have happened.
I am not sure how assistant coach contracts are done, but I can’t imagine they’re long term. They tend to move around quite often.

No way. Perhaps they're not long term, however nor are they that short. I just don't believe an assistant would agree to one year, and certainly not a whole bevy of them would. Golding had to have gotten the extension.
Lame duck coaches are basically doomed. Staff, recruiting, fanbase, and on-court success is all going to be an incredible uphill climb for us. Not to mention the negative effect on NIL fundraising that is now the backbone of collegiate athletics. The trolls on here are thrilled though. Too bad these same trolls are so impotent that their mighty efforts to affect the program in any way (mostly negative) are non-existent. Couldn't even keep the coach from getting an extension, much the less, getting him fired. C'mon trolls, work harder!

On one hand you call CJG a lame duck coach (meaning a coach just finishing out his contract) and on the other you say “couldn’t even keep the coach from getting an extension…”. He seems to be taking a “victory lap” that “trolls” were unable to get Joey Pewter fired, but is unhappy with being stuck with a lame duck coach lol.
Let's say Golding gets the best assistants to come and join him and they bring the best recruiting class ever. Anyone here actually thinks Golding would know what to do with actual talent ??
Only JoeJohnSr believes any of that. People who have paid attention the last 4 years don’t believe any of that is possible.
