If you’re not a P5 school, the college basketball offseason has just become “I lost all my C level bums… I need to replace them with NEW C level bums.” It’s like playing Scrabble. You got W, X, Y, Z and then you swap those letters out and now you have F, D, H, G and you’re back at square one. You can’t spell a damn thing.
Question: How do any of these Major Tranfers apply to Utep? Unless Utep is mentioned in them I don’t get it.
The NCAA needs to come up with a limit on transfers to a reasonable number like two. Many of the players who are in the transfer portal will not get picked up and their playing days will be over. This is hurting both the universities and a larger number of players. Some of these players are realizing the grass is not always greener on the side.
That’s what the players wanted though. They didn’t want to sit out a year because their coach got fired or hired elsewhere. They wanted to be able to leave like their coaches did.
Sometimes you get what you ask for.
1. Maybe you don't let 18-22 year olds make the rules
2. Maybe you don't let the schools with the deepest pockets make the rules.
Honestly IDK why there is an NCAA anymore. Why bother with the pretense that there is some independent governing body?
Why pretend that these are student athletes?
I'm not just sick of the debacle that is UTEP athletics, I'm sick of what college sports has become. College sports in general is losing my interest.

The term student athletes used to mean something, now it doesn’t for the big time players. I blame the O’Bannon’s!!! Lol
It's hanging on by only a thread. The P4 schools dictate nearly everything. Its table scraps for the NCAA at this point.

Agree. Do away with the pretense. They're minor league players now. Schools that can pay more will get the better players. It is what it is.
Agree. I will add that these athletes generate exponentially more revenue than baseball minor leagues, and have for many years. In my opinion, something had to be done.
We’re still in the Wild West era of NIL and transferring. How many of these guys are chasing NIL money and as opposed to a situation that would allow them to showcase their talents, grow and potentially earn a shot at pro ball (Looking at you Tyrin Smith and your 4 Rec for 32 Yds at Cincinnati).
I get UTEP can’t pay mega money in NIL. But a good coach would go to a player and say “Look, I’ve got X amount of money. But if you go to another school you may make more, but how are they going to use you? Come here, you’ve got the green light. Offense runs through you. You lead this team and that is something you won’t get anywhere else.” Out of those 9k transfers + HS players that has to hold some appeal.

If there was any sort of interest in the benefit of ALL schools, there would absolutely be a buyout when a mid-major school loses a player to a major school.

If that’s true, they pay more than a majority of MLS rosters. With no cap and no regulation The NCAA should just eliminate all of the mid majors and create a second division because this is getting worse and worse.
College football seems tame compared to the lawlessness in basketball

Men’s Intramural Basketball league at the Y is still in the playoffs, so he can’t announce players yet

I agree 100%. Guys are going to fall through the cracks. I bet a lot of transfers are overestimating their own worth and they’re not getting the offers or money they expected. But this is where a guy like Walden is built for the 21st century, throwing down offers like it’s a WW1 artillery barrage. Cast the biggest net and go from there.
Seems like a lot P5 guys are just swapping teams.
