If they were to build a Football indoor facility, where do you suggest it could be built ? Is there still some space available on campus ?

Serious question.

What should be the first thing UTEP renovates or builds? How much would it cost?

Indoor practice facility where Glory Field is at, then exterior of Haskins Center to match architecture. I heard from one of the old alums that it was built to expand…or I’m getting it confused with the library.

Aim for $500 million like this HS

If UTEP is going to engage in the arms race college football has become......building an indoor facility should be on their to-do list.

Is the Brumbelow building considered a historic building? If no, knock everything there down and make that area the indoor facility.

If money wasn't an issue......Build a parking garage in the "GR2G" or "GR2P" parking lots and make the top level of it the indoor practice facility.

I don't even think it has to be indoor. Just state of the art roof with fans and mister's and heaters for winter

Purchase was cancelled.

A lousy 7 million derails UTEP's plans. Sucks.

By the looks of it, those practice facilities have high ceilings. I don’t know if kickers work indoors but I’m sure it has to be high enough as to not interfere with QBs throwing bombs. That would probably make fans and heaters inefficient for a space that size. Just call one of those Canopy companies.

Why would El Paso need an indoor practice facility?
Summers are brutal in the 915.

The high winds 🍃🌬️ especially around Lent (March- April) could make that interesting. I have brought this up before about UTEP building an indoor practice facility: former head football coach Charlie Bailey asked Dr. D over 20 years ago, she said no. I believe it was only for football consideration only. If one ever gets built, it would have to accommodate multiple sports (🏈⚽🎾🏃).

UNTs design is like a giant fieldhouse next to their practice field. I guess they go indoors when there is bad weather. UTEP would use theirs 4 times a year if that were the case. Is that a better use of money than, say, updating the Haskins Center?

That's why I'll never understand how an indoor practice facility prepares you for an outdoor sport. I agree that the money would be better spent upgrading The Don and/or the Sun Bowl.

But UTEP would probably be able to use it to work out during the summer. I don’t think anyone likes being outside past 10:00 AM in the summer and fall. Plus, right or wrong these kids aren’t from the generation where almost dying in the heat was considered a character building exercise.

Absolutely. The name of the game is recruiting. We need an IPF to catch up. I think people forget football is a year round sport. They workout in the spring, summer as well as the fall. It would be heavily used 300 days a year.

Most of the recruits have an ipf in the high schools they come from. It's a necessity we have one.

The basketball facilities are fine. We've wasted far too much money on hoops. Its got us to this point. It needs to be all about football for the next decade.

If that is the case, why don't they just cover the existing practice field?

Oh, you've seen the design?
Can’t see a design if there’s not a design out there. Have you ever seen the practice field? They would need a bit more space than what they have, so if they just “cover it”, it won’t compare to other schools.

Don’t have one, just to have one. Get a nice one.

This is a fairly old article (2016) but it talks about how some HS throughout TX view IPF.

I totally understand the sentiment, "football is an outside sport". However, if we wish to attract recruits, my logic is that we need to have at least have facilities equal to what they have in HS.

It be interesting to find out how many of our current players went to HS programs who have access to IPF. (I would assume not many if any at all, but nonetheless, interesting)

I counted 68 players from TX. When I have chance, I google some of their HS to see if IPFs were available to them.

SIDE NOTE: Didn't realize we had so many EP players on the roster. AT least, more than I'm used to seeing from throughout my life. (I'm 39)

Man, that’s so weird that they are getting those built AFTER their Top 25 rankings and FCS Championships. Weird. Wonder if they continuously won 3 games a year if they would get those.

I've shown you schools that averaged 3 wins a year and you'll find the one winning season they had and say "they can point to that one winning season"

Is winning 11 games a year at SJSU an accomplishment? Especially when they didn’t have nice and new facilities.

Teams win without those things because they have good players and good coaches, at least for a season here and there.
