We're 10-3, they're 11-2. Net has them at 93, us at 145. Kenpom has them at 103, us at 141. We are at home. If we win this game it will be a good win, as opposed to beating an NAIA team or a winless Div1 team. Unfortunately I don't think that we're up to the task: I hope that I'm wrong.

Their worst loss at home vs 247 Southern U. Our worst loss neutral vs 217 San Jose St.
Screw what net rankings say. These teams our pretty even with us undefeated at home. We start 1-0.

LT only has two wins over teams with a winning record. Two trash teams making themselves seem bigger than they are.
I wouldn’t call them trash, but definitely two teams with “misleading” records.
Between the two they’ve got 2 combined Q1 and Q2 games. If they’re so good why are they scared to test themselves? Cherry picking at its finest.

I didn’t say they were good though either. LaTech didn’t even schedule 1 game vs a P5 team. That’s why the records are misleading. Wins over a bunch of crappy teams. Hard to say who is good or not.

I believe in the saying, ‘You are what you eat,’ and lately, we’ve been eating nothing but trash. LT too.
If I recall correctly we did a pretty good job with Batcho last year (maybe it's because he doesn't venture much out of the paint?). He is averaging about 20/7/3. They are shooting well from 3 and Newman is a good playmaker averaging 10 points with 10 assists.
UTEP will need to shoot well and avoid big droughts to win this one. I think we can match up with their guards and throw enough guys at Batcho to win. Frazier needs to have another big game as well.

Can't argue with that. Only thing I can say is UTEP needs very valuable minutes from Big Ham and Kalu. These two can not afford to disappear from here on out. We all have been waiting for Kalu to rise up at this time, he needs to get it done.

Well technically… Yale went up to 91 overnight and LT dropped to 96. I know it’s super early but if UTEP is really going to compete for a regular season championship, this a must win game.

10 wins thus far against average to below par opponents, none of which are impressive enough to excite the selection committee for an at-large NCAA Tourney bid. NET rankings don’t mean crap to a team like UTEP or a conference like CUSA. Only one pathway for UTEP to play in the Big Dance. It begins at home tonight against LaTech. It ends in March at Huntsville, Alabama.

And honestly why would our coaching staff schedule tougher? Miner fans complain about being 10-3 just imagine if we were 5-5 or 4-6 with some close losses like Louisville ?
El Paso overall sees the number of wins not the quality….

I actually disagree… if we were to start playing some power 5 teams and winning that would create another possible way into the tournament ….. I actually favor playing tougher teams… that makes your teams a lot stronger and tell you where you are

I’m not talking about what ifs or future scheduling. I’m talking about this season. Some are all excited about UTEP having won 10 games thus far. Some keep posting updated NET rankings. None of that means squat to UTEP. Only one way for UTEP to make the NCAA Tournament. They have to win the CUSA Tournament championship in March. No ifs, no ands, no buts.
The problem is lack of incentive for a school to play a “decent” mid major compared to an easy win mid major. If UTEP and Maine are the same cost to the power five school, why not play the school you know you will beat comfortably compared to a school you may lose to. Really the best hope is that KJ Lewis stays at Arizona and gets enough pull to have them schedule us while he’s there.
That’s what Senter and a few other folks around here seem to think. That we’re all just a bunch of clueless fans who should be grateful for winning 10 games. Meanwhile, El Paso seems to have more sense, which is probably why we can’t even draw 6,000 fans despite having our best start since 2015 or whatever year UTEP is touting as an accomplishment.
Utep needs to win these 3 games at home to start conference. It’s set up to give us momentum in conference play, dint blow it guys! My confidence level on winning tonight and all 3 though is at 45%
No, 6k attendance is not awful. LaTech would kill for that number. Go and look and tell us the last time they had 6k for basketball game.
Nobody is complaining about the 10-3 record. Some are pointing out the bad teams we have beaten, that’s it. The Miners could be 13-0 or 12-1. 10-3 is still a good record. Some are just not ready to crown them CUSA champs.
Playing tough teams means you prepare yourself for the end of the year. The Miners get no benefit out of playing 3 non-D1 teams. Just another way that Senter shits on the fans.
